I just got my MS-1s. They sound great so far running off my ipod. Are they going to be a lot different after the break-in period? They don't sound as forward as I was expecting. Are they really that different from the sr60 or sr80?

I felt the same way when I bought them, and though I have never tried a TRUE Grado (only Alessandro for me), I have tried Sennheiser. When you try a Sennheiser, you'll see why there is such a big debate between the two.

What I'm trying to say is, if these are your first cans then you have nothing to reference them against (the exact position I was in over a year ago). Don't go and rush and buy more stuff. Enjoy them. Trust me. I enjoyed them for over half a year before I tried something else (the Senn's).

I don't like saying one is better than the other anymore. I like them both for different genres. That's why I kept both.

Anyhow, just enjoy your cans, and don't pay attention to any upgraditis till you have fully enjoyed these for months. I still have my MS1's. Heck, I take them to work at the office. Good, solid choice. They get better with some time.

Congratulations!

Thanks for your response 1117. I am enjoying them so far. But, I already have the hd555s coming, probably tomorrow. I went a little headphone crazy and bought the ms-1s, hd555, and px100. I only had the eh150 and e2c before, and even without break in the ms-1s blow both of those phones away. Maybe I will keep the hd555s in the box for a month.

Haha! The HD555 were the same cans I bought AFTER the MS1's!

I now have the HD580's though (got them last week), so I'll probably get the MS2 next, and end it there for the rest of the year. (I still have my HD555 too!)

That is too funny. I guess we are on the same headphone track.

I probably won't be getting anything for a while, but this hobby is addictive. I see from your sig that you have the h320. The worst mistake I ever made was getting rid of it for an ipod 40 a couple of years ago. The ipod is more convenient in terms of accessories and car hook ups, but the h320 had the sweetest sound. I may look for one on ebay sometime, I miss that dap.

I don't know how much they'll change, but my MS1 sounded great right out of the box.
The SR80 sound more forward and more aggressive. Sure, the Grado sounded more exciting when I A-B them, but I got more ear fatigue after listening to SR80 after about 30 minutes. MS1 IMO sound a little more refined.
