I just jumped on the ether bandwagon. I ordered a pair with the DUM cable , xlr balanced. I was hoping my end headphone system would be the Hegel HD12-Cavalli LC- LCD 2.2 p/f, but reading this damn forum just cost me.

I jumped on last night. I, too, will be pairing the ETHER with the Liquid Carbon. I sent an unused pair of WyWire Red cables back to Alex so he can terminate with ETHER connects. Still a little shell shocked at the purchase but really believe it will be worth it.

If you're pairing the ETHER with the Liquid Carbon you're in for a treat. I loved that combo at AXPONA. Not quite as much as I enjoyed the ETHER with Dan's custom WA5 or the Liquid Crimson but their prices make them a bit harder on the budget.

Hey Matt and Amos, I have an idea!  I think we've all forgotten to mention something in our reviews so far.  Maybe we could get together and co-write a piece about the special synergy that exists between the ETHER and the Liquid Carbon?  I've found that both of them emphasize dynamicism in their presentations.  And when the two are paired, the result is something awesomer that the sum of its parts.

Ether and Carbon is a killer combo. The impression of it in my mind is irreversible. It will be a happy day when I have them both on my desk. 

You and me both. There's a wait for both of them but the wait is absolutely worth it in every single way. There's a synergy between them that's very difficult to find.

  Are you talking about Vapor audio speakers mainly? (To avoid being too far off topic, have ribbons ever been used in a headphone, or is that not possible?)

No, my speakers are Ascend Acoustics Sierra Towers.  They have an optional RAAL 70-20XR upgrade for them which itself has a special amorphous core transformer upgrade that may or may not still be exclusive to them.

I would certainly be willing to participate in a group article. Ether has struck a chord with me and I want to share the experience with others. I feel very fortunate that I was able to make the Nashville meet this year and that Dan, with a little encouragement from me and a few others, decided to make the long haul across country and share his creation and hard work.  I'm sure that CanJan would be a blast, but I'm not sure that it could match the small group experience that we all enjoyed at the Nashville meet. It was a weekend of good friends, good gear and good times listening to music. 
 
Even now I'm listening to a group that Dan's turned me onto as I sit here typing...Shpongle: Museum of Consciousness. I'm a little hopped up on it TBH but it's great stuff. I flirted with the idea of CanJam this year and a friend of mine, Joe S., was going and I considered tagging along. Meh, maybe next year. It's such a cool rush to get to put faces with names when attending these events.  People that you've sometimes known for years without ever having seen them in person. 
 
I appreciate that head-fi exist because of it's collections of members. This particular collection of people at headfi has such an impressive wealth of knowledge, passion for the experience of listening to music and generosity to share of that knowledge (and sometimes their pricey gear), time and experience that brings me back over and over. Tonight I'm grateful to appreciate the journey and enjoy music with this fine headphone. Well done Dan and Team.

Well said sir. I also have a liquid carbon ordered as well as the ETHER and can not wait to hear this combo. I also plan to hook up the Yggdrasil to the Liquid Carbon and see how this combo sounds. I am hoping the Gungnir upgrade will have been introduced by the time the Liquid Carbon is released.

That's a WyWires Red Series cable.  

 Love the WyWires Red!!  I use it on my LCD-X and will certainly use it on the ETHER when I get one.
 
FWIW, I've had several of the cables from one of the big names in headphone cables (won't say which one out of respect) and the WyWires Red was far superior in all respects -- deeper faster bass, more detailed and transparent, sweeter cleaner highs (and this is versus the top of the line MA SD -- ok so I gave a hint.)
 
And Alex is great to deal with and provides great service if you ever need modification or other servicing.
