As well as open-back headphones (my main pair), I always have a high quality pair of closed-back headphones as well - which I can use when my wife is trying to watch TV in the same room - ie low sound leakage outwards is important. So Fostex TH900 are no good!

I currently have some ZMF Eikons which I do like, but would like something a little brighter in the treble end. Budget £1,000-£1,500 or so.

I was wondering about the MrSpeakers Ether C Flow? How do they sound compared to the Eikons? Are the Ether C Flows a bit brighter? Do the Ether C Flows have low sound leakage?

Any other good closed-back options in this price range?

Thanks.

Have you tried swapping the pads?
The Verite closed has more energy in the upper mids, but its above your price point.

The only Mr.Speakers I have heard extensively was the AFC. It was very nice sounding and comfortable. That being said it lacked slam as well as texture,so a very large change from the ZMF house sound.

I'm using leather pads with the Eikons.
I tried swapping pads on a ZMF Atticus from leather to suede and it made them less bright. So I assume sticking with leather pads is probably best of the Eikons....

I'm not sure I understand that chart! Which earpads would I move to in order to make the Eikons sound brighter?
Personally I would ask @zach915m
ZMF goes out of their way to make sure their customers are satisfied.
The only dynamic HP ZMF makes that I have no experience with is the Eikon,so I cannot advise.

You'd want to try the universe pads for a brighter sound, the Eikon is already fairly neutral and not a dark headphone already, it's pretty neutral with a bass rise. Also - using suede will make them brighter. Lots more info on our website here too:

Zach - so would the Universe pads in ZMF Suede (non perforated) be the best choice for making the Eikons sound brighter? And will this leave the bass unchanged? (I like the sub-bass and bass on the Eikons as they are with the leather Eikon pads!).

I'm that case either eikon hybrid or Auteur lambskin or hybrid would be good. As universe will decrease the bass.

So - to make Eikons sound brighter without losing bass - maybe I should try Eikon Hybrid pad or Auteur Hybrid pad? Which one would sound brighter?

Would it be worth also changing the cable on the Eikons? Any recommendations (below £400) for increasing brightness (without decreasing bass)?

Would silver be better, or would copper ones be best?

Any advice folks?

For increased energy in the treble area you want silver. You shouldnt lose any bass response, but it might sound faster than what you're used to.

Can anyone recommend a decent silver cable that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? (eg under £400)?
Ummm...Ive owned two silver/hybrid cables. One was made by a guy who was quite well know in this community, but apparently he is no longer in the cable making business.
The other was made by ZMF.
