when i asked Mr nakamura?(Stax repair man) about it(I acutually complained him why 009 is not detachable cable.), IF my memory was correct..he told me that its due to reliable issue? contacts degrade SQ?detachable connectors make headphone heavy. (i am not so sure if my momory correct?)
as you know, contacts are one of the most unreliable parts among all electrics parts. it makes sense in his opinion. ofcourse Stax can change thier opinons.

Well....isn’t Omega has been well over 20 years reliable ?

I'll take a hard wired cable connection any day. I've never taken out my HD800S/6XX cable from the headphone connections yet, and never will.

I will take a replaceable cable any day. One of the first things I did with my Utopia was take off the 10 foot monstrosity and exchange it with a Silver Dragon cable which made the headphones so much more comfortable to wear. I realize that electrostatic headphones have 580ish volts but the current is pretty low (1-2 mAmps I believe) which means it might zap you but wont explode your head.

Having an issue with a 10' cable, then I could see wanting to change it.
If the stock Utopia cable length was to your liking, would you have changed it?

I agree that if it had been a better cable I would probably not have changed it, and I have not changed it since I swapped it out. I do worry about repair, as the cable seems a high point of failure as its moved and coiled and may be plugged into different amps, etc. Being able to replace it without having to send in the headphones is a plus. I don't have my VOCE yet, but it looks like it essentially functions as a fixed cable but it is possible to remove with a screwdriver, right?

Ok let’s look at that. How long has STAX been making headphones? Long time right? So why does a simple thing like the yoke clip break so easy and cost so much? A $500 adventure to repair a 20 cent (exaggeration) part.
Do you have the Stax, and will you have the VOCE to compare in your store?

It's still a plug-in connection point, not a hardwired connection point, so it's still a potentially weak point. I feel the less plug-in points, the better off you are. OTOH, you definitely have a great point should the cable fail concerning the ease of replacement.

Actually Hifi Lounge in Cambridge has already put an order in for a demo pair so as soon as they arrive in the UK they will have them a few days later, we are hoping them to arrive around the end of March

They are super. I can understand being anxious over hearing them.

We have the STAX and we have the VOCE. Both are available for auditions
I have no experience with electrostatic headphones and would be interested in how people compare the VOCE (and/or STAX) to the Focal Utopia, which I do have. I use the Utopia with a Hugo TT and Danacable and enjoy it but am always looking. Thanks.

You have a pretty nice rig there.

If you are able to come and visit to audition HeadGear we have all the products you’ve mentioned. It’s very difficult to make a fair comparison because you can’t use the same amp to be sure you’re hearing a fair comparison. Otherwise my friend I’d walk over to the headphone department and give you some input on my impressions to help you with some insight. If you’re ok with a comparison with us using the same gear you use, knowing the Electrostatics are on a completely different amp, we could at least give you that comparison. If that works, contact @TSAVAlan and he’ll do a comparison for you under those parameters.

Cheers :)
