MrSpeakers Electrostatic Prototype Listening Impressions
Nov 2, 2017 at 5:06 PM Post #421 of 937
It would be cool to see the final version compared in a blind test with the other major electrostats maybe at the next SoCal TOTL Electrostatic Festival hosted by The Source AV. Maybe include the Sonoma Model One too!

Trust me when we say you’re all in for a lot of very cool surprises from TSAV between now and CanJam NYC & SoCal.

Hopefully it's not a driver reliability issue that's keeping production back, at the head-fi meet in SF the "production model" blew out on one side.
Dan called it the "production tuning" if I remember correctly, not the "production model". As long as the production pipeline is not finished, there is at best a final prototype, but no production model.

The units we are now showing around the world this weekend in Germany and China, and next weekend in Poland, are full production with only a couple of color/cosmetic adjustments. We are moving to full production and shipments are planned to begin in January.

Demand and interest are far higher than anticipated so I will be investing in additional clean workstations.

Thanks to everyone who gave us support, feedback and useful suggestions during our product development. We will announce pricing details this month.

So is Blue Hawaii the only option for an amp? Will the Stax amps work? Are other, new stat amps coming out soon for use with the ES?

You could use the STAX amp if you like. There is also the WES by Woo Audio but generally the HeadAmp Blue Hawaii is concidered the best of the bunch in electrostatic amplifiers.

Ether ES has a Stax compatible connector, it will work with any Stax amp.
But a Blue Hawaii / KGSSHV Carbon / DIY T2 will sound much better than any Stax amp :)

Totally agree. The only difference here is that Blue Hawaii is sold on the website but Carbon and T2 are built by professional builders. People can check the classified forums if there is Carbon or T2 is available. But all of them are in the same level for sure.

Help me understand that. You’re saying HeadAmp is not professional? We are a HeadAmp dealer so it’s not entirely “web based sales”. We have all HeadAmp amplifiers on our display floor. So far as I can see from their build quality they are built very well and clearly consistent in that build quality. I’d suggest that maybe HeadAmp is less likely found as a used product simply because very few people give them up unless they stop using electrostatic headphones. I bought mine used but only because the seller got out of headphone usage altogether.

Just a thought anyway.

To be clear the Ether ES is Pro bias, so is intended to work with any Pro bias estat headphone amp or energizer.
Yes, I'm an Engineer and I get "technical" sometimes. :D

I’m sure you’re aware that the ES cans were voiced using the HeadAmp Blue Hawaii and a couple other amps but mostly the Blue Hawaii as it happens to be Dans preferred E-Stat amp and it’s definitely one of my favs too. We both use the Siemens tubes rather than stock tubes but that is the beauty of it in that tube rolling on it is somewhat friendly

Sorry about the misunderstanding. Blue Hawaii is high quality amp from professional builders for sure. I am just pointing out that Blue Hawaii can be sold from local dealers and website. But for Carbon and T2, most of times, people can only get unassembled parts and build by themselves or other professional builders. As for the sound quality, they are on the same level.
