^^ Never owned the hd700. It's just one of the gaps in my journey. Never even auditioned them. I do own the hd800 and will be comparing them to AFO in the review.

I was fortunate enough to try the AFO and closed brother. Though the open was nice, the closed one surprised me more. I guess one can say at the prices the AFO is offered, its a good deal. My ears found them balanced but on the warm side. The closed to me was very well balanced, and spacious, and what I wished my dt660 could be. Its super clean, neutral, reference type. However, in saying that I was able to test a HEXv2/PM-1 to compare which to my ears was superior throughout head to head, and with the price differences, I would expect that. The AFO/AFC are comfortable, balanced , and excellent at their prices. :D The closed especially, is a great 'tool' . The AFO/AFC were tested on a Pathos Aurium, and the PM-1 was on a Sony TA-ZH1ES, HEXv2 on Pathos ClassicRemix IIRC. :D Also compared to top tier,. well you get what you pay for.. still a notch behind the best of the best, but not far off :smiling_imp: good job Mr.Speakers!

No problem! Thanks for all the help Alan! I may visit later today before I fly back to Texas

what do they improve? in closed version they change the signature a lot and in a good way..

Improve wouldn’t be the correct word to use. They are damping pads. They reduce mid-high frequencies if you feel they are too forward in the mids.

The extra pads that came with the aeon closed will come with this too?

Yes, with 3 pad options.

Dan, are you shipping to dealers this week as well as direct orders?

We expect to ship to our first tier distributors and resellers starting this week. Source AV, Audiovision SF and Goodwin's will get the first lots out for brick and mortar, and Moon for online. The UK and Japan get the first international deliveries, which also should ship late this week.

Can you explain further please? The AFC had one set of pads and this sounds like there will be three now.

Sure. The Open has a little more flexibility in this regard, so we've added 3 levels; the black foam for minimal damping in the highs, a white felt with one notch for a bit more, and a different felt with 2 notches for the most.

As always, we don't recommend going back and forth to determine which you prefer, because of the way our brains work most people will default to no pads thinking the pads "reduce detail," this is a pretty normal response. So we recommend you just listen to an album or two without the pads, then put the pads in and listen to the albums again, or even the next day, and think about which gave you a more enjoyable overall experience.

Thanks for the detailed answer! More options is always better:beerchug:
