Hello, headfi! I have been reading around the site for the last month or so, and now I am in need of your help.

I recently bought the super.fi 3, and while everything was very clear, there was no punch to the sound. I thought that maybe I didn't have a tight enough seal, but testing all the tips showed the same, overly bright results. Listening to some Sublime, I found the lower notes, but they still lacked the punch the Grado's deliver.

So now I am searching for a good canal phone or IEM around $100 with a clear sound and punchy (but not fake or over-emphasized) bass. I used to have sony ex71's, and I found them fun to listen to but they were pretty muddy overall. So you can understand my tastes, my current favorite headphone for at home listening is my Grado SR60.

BTW I will be using these headphones through an unamped device, and I enjoy listening to pretty much every subgenre of rock and metal.

Also, I would not mind sacrificing a small amount of clarity for good, full bass response. That's not to say the bass is the most important part of the sound to me, but I do appreciate punchy bass.

Yes but some say the bass is too much even for bass heads and most recommend the 5 pro's for bass.

I also find the comfort to be lacking compared to Shure's.

Try the Audio Technica CK7. Sparkling highs, clean mids, and tight, punchy bass.
They are also built like tanks.

Angelicboris, how do they compare to MylarOne X3's? From reading around the forum, the X3 seems to be gaining quite a following.

I would recommend the x3's. In my ears they come as close as you can get to the Grado sound..

Well I am going to try out the MylarOne's, and if I find a good deal I will check out the Audio Technica CK7.

Thanks for your help guys, I will let you know how it works out.

I was checking eCost.com, and came up with new option: XtremeMac FS1. For those of you guys have used or own them, can you give me a comparison of how they sound compared to the Grado SR60, UE super.fi 3, or Sony EX71?

I am also considering the V-Moda Vibe. How does it sound compared to any of the above phones?
