I just sold my Sennheiser HD580s, in a failed attempt to kick my headphone habit.

So now I'd like to branch out a bit beyond Sennheiser and Grado, and try a few more sounds out there. I did not like the Grados very much at all. Too forward, too much impact. It gave me a headache after listening for an hour. The Sennheisers were a nice cure for that. I liked the airyness and the details of the Senns. The bass of the HD580s was very very nice.

The next set of headphones I buy:
- I would like to have even more detail than the HD580s
- Bass response is definitely a plus, but not a necessity.
- Give me room to grow, if I wanted to add a nice amp or replace cables.

My recommendation is the HD595, the other 'rational' recommendation being the DT880. Personally I'd chose the 595 all over again mostly because I -love- its midrange (vocals, guitars, piano, woodwinds ...).

Good luck!

Sounds like the HD650. More bass than the 580's and benefit from
an amp.

A900's have the bass, but you'd probably miss the midrange. A900's
don't seem to need an amp.
