I have a Motorola MPx200 phone which has Windows Media Player. I've ripped about 50 tracks down to the 256M SD card and needed headphones to listen to them. I bought the Motorola stereo phones which are buds. I couldn't get them to fit comfortably and sound good at the same time. So I kept the 4 pole jack plug and cord and soldered the cord to a pair of old Koss Mac5 headphones. The sound is very good and plenty loud enough.
Previously I had tried a 2.5 to 3.5mm adaptor. The 2.5 end is only 3 pole and to make it work properly in a 4 pole socket it has to project about 1mm (fit a small washer to act as a spacer). The whole result is a large clumsy adapter on the side of an elegant phone. It also tended to fall out easily because it couldn't be seated properly because of the washer.
I've searched high and low for a supplier of 4 pole 2.5mm stereo jacks. They must be available for the likes of Motorola and Nokia to source them. But who will supply to the public? I have since seen a corded adapter from Hitachi which is meant to work but is expensive at about $24 plus carriage.
Has anyone on this forum got experience in sourcing 2.5mm 4 pole audio jacks?
