have about a $500 budget for phones and amp. looking at a used ppa in the $300 range so probably $200ish for phones.

hd650 used?
hf-1?

problem is i need superaural so i'd need to c-pad the hf-1's or the like. so extra cost there. budget is flexible.

so here's what you need to know:

1. my previous setup was pimeta with BB opa637's and ms-1's. i like the clarity of grados, but i must admit the brightness is a little rough.

here's my music tastes in order of prefference: classic rock, electronica (trance, goa, techno), instrumental jazz, bluegrass, classical.

what are your thoughts? yes, i know this is hard.

You got the terms mixed up - circumaural (around the ear) is what you need. Anyway, this music spectrum requires pretty universal cans. Used HD650 or HD600 doesn't sound like the worst of ideas.
