Sounds like it to me. You could try playing around with the volume controls and try to minimize it (lower volume set from PC and higher volume set from amp), but at this point it doesn't sound like it's coming from the amp to me.

I know tangent's info is extensive but

is there some more indept info on installing the switch (radioshack SPDT) or the Volume control, Panasonic 10K, horizontal mount (EVJ-C20)?

I'm going to see if I can google it.

I used the above link to figure out how to wire the switch.
