The iMod plus vCap costs a lot more then the LISA III I suppose. I voted a little. The LISA III price may have gone up enough to match it.

Don't feel too bad. It can make a huge difference in the right setting some time and money isn't always indicative of quality.

I think they're about equal in terms of real dollars. But I'm not sure if that's the best measure of quality.

How do you evaluate the sweat equity put into a piece of gear you worked on, like a DIY amp or the FM tuner I restored? The commercial amps and tuners cost a lot more than what I spent on these. However, I think the performance is equal or better.

Next, I've upgraded my turntable to the higher model - do I count what I spent on the parts, or value it as the higher model, which it now is? What about used gear? And what about discontinued gear that is now appreciating?

Counting all my purchases so far combined, my sources have cost me more. As of right now, my amp is the show.

Though many say source is more important, I find the amp to be equally as important.

Both actually. "Garbage in, Garbage out." With Headphones your peering in with an Acoustic Microscope. Every part of the chain matters. You know what is said about Chain construction. And the weakest link.

Guess what I voted?

X2 Good clean source!

Amp. At one point I thought I might quickly upgrade to an expensive source after I purchased my MAD Ear+ HD. However, after I auricap tweaked (see sig for link) my SONY SCD-CE595 for ~$30 I changed my mind, at least for the time being. Couldn't believe how much better the mod made this cheap little player sound. I'm sure I'll still upgrade my source at some point, but now I am in no rush.

Source. A mini 3 amp will do 90% at least of most amps out there. However, there is a big HUGE difference in how a stock zhalou sounds compared to one like Ori's. If my wife was not such a baby about the noise I would keep mine lol. I just can't play it soft enough. She has superman's ears it appears.
