Moon Nēo 430HA Reference Headphone Amplifier

As my Moon 430HA is burning in the sound with my new LCD4 phones is absolutely spectacular! During the burn in it can be a little frustrating as it is a roller coaster ride with good sound and not so good sound but from what I’ve heard this evening it’s worth the ride.

Mine sounds superb now, with my HD800. I've noticed leaving it on to warm up for a while improves the sound, as with all of my Moon kit.

I did get a PM asking about the DAC card and whether it was a D3.

I wasn't aware that the DAC card in the 430HAD was updated. Does anyone know if the card was changed, and if so, when that happened?

I tried an upgraded kimber and a wywire power cable on mine but couldn’t detect any difference. And I really wanted to! [/QUOTE said:
For me when I went from a DH Lab Redwave to the DH Lab Corona I found the sound became cleaner and livelier. .The Redwave is a good cable but can sound slower than the Corona. The 430 is a neutral sounding amp so it can sound “slow” depending on the gear before it. It can sound simply too slow on some systems but can sound sweet on other systems. I kept my Taurus Mk2 amp in case I did not like the sound of my 430 and my Taurus is in its cardboard box. I’d perhaps look at faster interconnects. If your 430 is still relatively new it does appear to liven up after several hundred hours play.Where some people find the 430 neutral and sweet others find it slow and boring.

I am still enjoying the 430HAD after many years. Great piece.

Hi folks: I’m having problems with my unit: sounds congested and also harsh on the LCD4: a funny combination. Went to my local store and tested my LCD4 on their 430HA: absolutely SPECTACULAR. Detailed, relaxed, great soundstage, great separation and a full sound. For some reason I just can’t replicate the same thing at home. It’s not that my sound at home is irredeemably bad: it’s just on another (lower) level and I’ve no idea why.

Going to take my unit into the store for some testing and then, hopefully, off to Simaudio for a look.
