Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

What's the consensus on using the stock backing foam, some other material or none at all???

I'm planning on printing up VRacer's grills once I get my 3D Printer setup.

I ended up cutting out some speaker grill cloth because the stock foam would not fit between the new grills and the fazors on the outside of the earphones. It matches the vegan pads pretty nicely, and looks great I think.

Audeze leather pads have also been discussed here, and may be just as good with the M1060 as the vegan pads.. I haven't tried either.

I know this is late to the party but I have the Audeze leather with paper towel mod and mine sound great.....to me. Others may disagree but I quite enjoy the sound and may not hear some of the anomalies others have mentioned. These pads also enhance the bass even more. Running these through a Lyr 2 with some nice tubes also helps.
I like them just the way I have it set up.
One thing through, I believe the Audeze leathers are like $80. I didn't care as I obviously bought them.

I think Audeze stopped selling their leather pads as well. Rip.

Audeze maybe, but you can still get them at:
B&H photo $80
Moon audio $100 (What?)
Adorama camera $80

Granted they're $80 (a crazy $100 at Moon) but you can still get them if you want to spend the cash. To me it was worth it. With pads, it's still a descent moderately priced set of headphones under $400

Just a suggestion: Before people jump on the modding/new pads train and incur additional expenses right out of the gate, I would encourage people to (1) do not even listen to the headphones until a 24-hour burn-in (put your music library on shuffle at decent volume and walk away), and then (2) listen to them stock and/or see what you can do via equalization.

Everyone's ears and aural perception are different. You may discover that the extra $50-100 for pads and mods are not required. Just because person X said that Wiffleblinkie Sooperdooper Pads made a world of difference to them, doesn't necessarily mean they will work for you. KISS principle... Start simple and only mod if deficiencies present themselves.

Buying extra pads before ever even hearing the phones seems to be putting the cart before the horse.

totally agree, the stock pad is very good, feels like two pillows

I sold off my Vegans when I tried 4 pieces of 'Creatology' inside the stock pads, and preferred the sound. Short strips top and bottom, and longer strips front and back. This and the DMS3 (TV) Creatology fuzzor mod works great for me.

So I just got my fazors from @SomeTechNoob amd will get them on at some point. But here is what I have noticed. I had the 5k ringing but after about 30-40 hours or break in, it was gone. I literally just let my headphones play while I was at work and it seemed to cure it only a few days after getting them.

The ringing with stock pads, I could weeks without hearing it then the other day it was really bad.

I noticed my headband was quite forward on my head closer to my face than my crown, I put the band back to the back on my head and the ringing stopped.

This obviously effects the pad position slightly and the reflections.

I went back and lined the pads with felt on the inside ( I had taken it out because of comfort, this time fitting it properly) now I can position them wherever I like with no ringing.

I wonder if the upcoming open planar headphones (LCD-2C, Aeon Open) will affect M1060's pricing, or even trigger Monoprice to release new model? M1065 maybe?
