I have the 788 and am still within the return window. After some research I found the SU-8+SP200 combo as a possible better option. My daily headphones are Hifiman Ananda, HD600, and Grado 325e. I do not use any of the features of the 788 and everything is running balanced xlr except the Grados. I have a few questions:

1. Is the difference in amps or DACs worth the switch?
2. What about the Drop 789 as an alternative? Worth the extra money over the SP200?
3. I was also looking at the SU-8/Loxjie P20 combo. Would that amp not work well with the Anandas (25ohm 103dbs)?

If you are considering the 789, you may want to throw the Monolith 887 into the ring. It measures slightly better than the 789, and you get a 3 year warranty vs. 1 year. Though the fundamental design is the same, Monoprice went through and upgraded a number of component choices. It will certainly drive your headphones with ease, I'm very happy with it.

I have the opportunity to buy thx 887 amp and thx 788 dac/amp for the same price. On paper 788 has dual chips and fully balanced. (I have a nuforce DAC 80 so don't have balanced dac). Isn't 788 better option since it is fully balanced and it has dual dac/amp?
