Hi,
I was thinking about changing dac (That one driving channel 7/8 ) on a Gainward Hollywood@home7.1 card.
Since Chaintech's AV710 is no where to find here in Sweden I was thinking; hey, how about changing the dac to that wolfson model? (Yes that's the only differences between these 2 cards...AFAIK)

So... 1.Can this be done and still use the same drivers?

2.Is there any kind soul out here who would look at their Chaintech
card and tell me what values the resistors are : R72,73,74,75,76 ?

Really cool if someone could help me here...

You generally can't just replace the DAC of a soundcard. First, it is highly unlikely the 2 DACS are pin compatible. Second, even if they are I believe DACs require some sort or programming to make them work in a given situation. It would be far easier and probably cheaper to find someone to send you an AV-710.

in fact, the official Envy24 flasher tool has pre-defined firmwares for both Crystal and Wolfson DACs paired with VT1616 codec, so that you can flash the correct firmware for your DAC combination.. I don't see the problem here, however where are you going to get the specific Wolfson DAC and for how much? also why do you think the Wolfson is that magical compared to the Crystal part you have?

Dear Glassman, my situation is like this....
1, I do already have the wolfsson dac.
2, It does look like a general opinion from people here that the wolfsson dac sounds better than the cirrus...Do u have an opinion about these two dac's?

3, U wouldn't happen to know where to get that Envy-flasher do u?

Would really appreciate it....
Thnx for ur answers...

I don't have any opinion on the lesser Crystal DACs because I've heared none, however I've heard the Chaintech and wasn't really impressed.. you can find the flasher on my webspace, you can find the link searching for 'prodigy chaintech flash' in Computer as a source forums..
