Few months ago, I bought my friend's grado 325i. It goes without saying... I also have to face the killing hurt of 325i ear pads.

Therefore, I bought AKG K601 ear pads.I think it is much more comfortable.

Because the process of making the K601 ear pads for 325i is too bloody, let's see the consequence.

because the space of the ear pads is bigger, the bass and punch is stronger than the original ones. And violent bass is my type, so I get used to it very soon and love the comfort of the new ear pads.

That's my kind of mod. Congrats. Is the sound stage bigger? How do the mids and highs change?

Very neat looking, and if you like the sound and comfort then all the better.

I just toughed it out and let my ears get used to the stock pads. It took a few weeks of pain, let me tell you. These are heavy cans.

How much did you pay for the ear pads and how "bloody" was the process? Earpad mods are the only mods I'm not too cowardly to attempt on my bottom-of-the-line sr60s.

It almost looks like he bought some Grado bagels and then chopped them off and subsequently glued on the AKG pads.

As my own listening, YES! the sound stage is much bigger

The highs get brighter but mids become thicker.

However, maybe it is because that I was still immersed in the happines of the comfortable ear pads.

Nevertheless, I suddenly have the willingness to make the dt990 ear pads for my 325i. DT990 ear pads are my favorite.

NoXter & me did something similar, but in order to tame the MS2i, we utilized K270 velours pads glued onto reversed 414s. That combination decreased the highs & upper mids, better soundscape, but the stock bass remained quite unaffected.

It just took me 5 dollars(include the tools and materials).Actually the process was short. It took less than 30 mins.

Tools: Dividers knife

Materials: 1.few pieces of A4 hard foam. 2.glue

This earpad is divided into three layers. You can watch the picutures as below.

The first one will be stuck on the NEW earpad which you like.

The middle one provides the space to accommodate the headphone speaker.

The third one will lock the headphone so that the hollow part is a little bit bigger than the first one.

After finishing the three pads, you use glue to stick them together with the NEW earpad.

So~ it is quite easy, isn't it?

The foam boards and divider knife are very cheap. The most expensive one is the AKG K601 earpad. I may make a new Beyer DT990 earpads.

If so, I will take pictures then.

The foam in those earpads might be helping them be brighter in the treble. Consider cutting the foam out at the driver maybe.

Nice mod, although I have never considered doing ear pad mods like this to a Grado. I find the high's are bright enough and the mids are fine but the bass is not enough. The soundstage is almost perfect (need a tiny bit wider), so these mods would not be for me by the looks of it, one day though I might buy some cheap Grado's and do countless mods on them, who knows

I've used sennheiser hd 414 earpads, Beyer Dynamic DT 990 earpads, and an hard foam board.

Nice. How is the sound? I am guessing less bass and a wider soundstage and more distant mids? How are the high's? are they sibilant?
