Need 2 pr of moderately priced noise cancellation headphones for a 12 hour plane ride. I rather doubt that they will be used very often so that something less than $50 (I have no idea if that is moderately priced) and possibly less. I would rather not have the ear buds.

Thank you

When you say noise canceling do you mean? 1) A headphone which generates a wave 180 degres off so as to cancel the outside noise? In this set up you will not be pluging it to any kind of a music player. 2) Same as above but that you can plug into a music player and enjoy the music without the jet roar. 3) A sealed headphone that simply blocks some of the noise to allow the music of the source (Ipod, cd player, etc) to come thru. or 4) An in ear monitor like Ety, Shure, etc.

I do not care for headphones which generate a wave 180 degrees off so I will let someone else discuss those. If 3) get the Sennheiser HD201 for $19.95 plus S&H or the AKG K 26 P for $39.95 at Headroom. If you are looking for option 4) the go with the Shure 2C or the Sony EX71.

Good luck.

I was looking for something that I would plug into a Dell pocket DJ that would block out the noise of the aircraft but allow the sound of the music to come through that fit over the ear. I was reading in another forum about Sennheiser PXC 250 or PXC150 which are more than I was hoping to pay. I saw some on ebay for about $75 each. Am I providing enough info to help in providing a recommendation? I was hoping to spend less than $75.

Thank you

The Sennheiser HD201 will muffle airplane noise, and sound very good, and are only $20. Also, the AKG K26P ($40) has a pretty good seal, and are foldable. Look at the Beyer DT231 if you don't mind spending $60. If you don't intend to use them often, just go for the HD201's.

Most people think they want "noise cancellation" headphones whereas "noise isolating" headphones are actually more effective. Noise cancellation headphones only reduce rumble but actually still let a lot of noise through (like people talking). Noise isolating headphones reduce all noise, not just rumble. On a plane, that's a good thing because half the noise around you is people talking, coughing etc.

The Shure E2C work and feel like earplugs, and block about twice as much noise as the other types. If you really want to block outside noise, this is the way to go.
