Also, the cable I have has 4 strands/cables inside, how do I know which ones to attach to Left and which ones go right???? Also, I would like to add a few holes in the grill, can I use a hand drill? I dont have a dremel.

If you have a multimeter you can always burn off the enamel and then check the connection. The tip of the headphone jack is left, the middle ring is right, the base ring is ground. Match up the contact points and then mark them.

Or you can follow the: Red = right, Green = left, Amber = ground, and mark them accordingly. I'm pretty sure that's more or less universal.

You can use a hand drill. If you're making the holes pretty big drill a pilot hole if the tip of the bigger bit doesn't have a good cutting surface

I suggest that you take a look at the "How to make an interconnect" thread located here , near the top of the DIY forums. This will give you a great start as to how to make your replacement cable.
