So I read the thread about modding an X-fi and found it interesting...but i'm interested in modding my audigy 2 platinum. I feel kind of like a dope for even asking this, but what parts do you mod on the audigy 2? I compared the x-fi and audigy card and they have different layouts :-| Does anyone know where I can find some pictures of this stuff (post-modded)? Is it really worth it?

If youre talking about the opamp mod the Audigy2 zs uses all the same opamps. From memory U2 is for the front channels so replace that for headphones.

You just remove the original opamps and solder on better ones (x-fi mod uses LM4562's, but you could use others). I never tried modding anything else on it. The opamp mod makes it sound a bit better but it still falls a long way short of my Fubar II, so if you've got a spare $150 I'd seriously not bother with the audigy 2 mods and just get a USB DAC.

If you don't have much soldering experience I wouldn't reccommend trying to swap the opamps, they're pretty fiddly and you can destroy the card completely if you strip one of hte contacts or damage components by heating the board too long when removing the opamps.

Edit: Also make you get SOIC surface mount opamps for the a2zs/x-fi opamp mod.
