Modding questions, materials = expected effect?

I've gone though many headphones and I have yet to find any that I feel happy with. I currently own a pair of Sennheiser 555's and Denon 2000's and at some point I want to mod them. Since both are fairly expensive, $150 and $220 on a good day I don't want to mod them blindly and end up ruining them. I'm looking for a ultra light, zero sweating, zero warmth, open with decent bass and non-recessed mids.  I ordered a pair of JVC HARX300 for $13 and I'm just looking to see how different materials effect its sound. If nothing else I think the headband would be great for a driver or house/driver transplant. 
 
With that said I'm looking to see if anyone has a list of materials and how they effect the sound.
