I got this fancy selfbuilt tube amp. An upscale darling 1626 design. It lacks headphone output.

I'm thinking about doing something about that, since I got an akg k701 in the mail. What I'm considering is using the 16ohm tapping on the output transformers, adding a 22ohm resistor in parallell with a 1/4" headphone output, should work out to about 16ohms load.

Would this give me enough power for K701's? The amp does about 750mW continuous without clipping.

akg 701 will definently benefit from a good amp. im sorry i dont have the info you need to do this but this seems like a good question to ask in the DIY section.

Hmm. Did the maths, and I'll get about 200mA continuous / 2A peak. This should be plenty, right?

Said amp has an extremely overkill power-supply.
