Hello guys, my first post here.

So I have found an interesting mod for the Audio-Technica ATH-TAD400 and ATH-TAD500 headphones. There is a 3mm thick black foam disc covering the aluminium grille on each can.
This can be easily removed and definitely improves the sound. Very similar to HD555/HF558 mod but in this case the piece of foam covers the whole grille. What made me suspect this is that ATH-TAD series has way less noise than AD series in which you can see the driver - while in TAD you can't even if you shine the light in the drilled aluminium cover.

Steps:
1. Remove earpad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_qi71ePIQg
2. Unscrew 4 screws
3. Remove the foam, it is just placed in there, not glued of fixed in any way.
4. Voila. Time to test your new headphones :p

I suggest you try it - takes 5 minutes - and post your results here. Unfortunately I don't have any measuring gear but I am sure that sound is way better (less muffled) now.
