Hi, first time poster in this forum. I have been researching this for the last couple of hours and have done what I felt were the appropriate searches, but still can not find a direct answer to my question.

I am looking for good headphones with a microphone to use with my LG VX-8100 cell phone. Considering the source of the music, I don't think extreme high end headphones are justified, but I would like to have at least decent step up beyond the normal ear bud style head phones. The ones that caught my attention are the Sennheiser MM 50's.

The specs and the look are similar to the CX300's, but not quite exactly the same. Question is, from you guys who have experience with Sennheiser, how close to the CX300's can I expect the sound quality of the MM 50's to be? I know this is a very subjective question, apologies in advance for that!

The specs don't mean much, as headphones can have the same specs, but the drivers will just sound different. I don't have personal experience with these though, so sorry I can't really help. I've never even heard of the MM 50.

Thanks for the feed back Flamerz. I almost get the feeling that the aftermarket for cell phone specific headphones is just barely getting off the ground or something. I can't believe how difficult it has been to find a decent pair of hp's with the 4 pole 2.5 mm plug and a mic. I would like to think that all Sennheisers sound similar to each other, but would like to hear that from someone who has listened to quite a few different models.
thanks, nudge.

I saw them before but never heard them. The enclosures sure look very similar if not the same. I'm in Singapore and they're about the same price.

I expect them to sound similar.

Thanks afbug, I appreciate your reply. I think I'll just order them and see if I like them. Sennheiser does have a good reputation, and there does not seem to be anything else on the market to compete with them anyway.

I just recieved my MM 50's, and thought I would give back a little to the forum by posting my impressions of them for you guys.

They are very comfortable, with a choice of three sizes of sleeves to customize them.

They are not nearly burned in yet, but my early impressions of the sound is really positve. Enough bass to give the music defintion, and the vocals sound clean and smooth. So far they are worth the money, and they are leaps and bounds beyond the earbuds that they are replacing.

The only negative thing about them is that they are not a perfect match for my cell phone, which is an LG-8100. The list of phones that it will work with is a long one, however, and all the phones on the list start with the word 'Motorola'. Anyway, if you push the jack all the way into the cell phone, the sound disolves into a mass of reverb and echo, practically wiping out the vocals. Which I have to admit was kinda fun for the first minute or so! Pulling the jack one "click" out of the phone restores the sound to normal. But of course, that means that the mic function no longer works. Oh well, the darn thing doesn't ring all that often anyway!

Can I recommend these? Yes, if your cell phone works with the pin out for these headphones. The sound is really pretty good, especially considering the source is just a cell phone. I believe these phones are giving me all there is to be had from such a non-audiophile source. If your pin out doesn't match, you will have to make a call on how functional you need these phones to be. But so far anyway, they will be keepers for me.

Thanks,
nudge
