I grabbed this CD at a used shop this weekend. Some would call it awful, some would call it raw. I guess it was what I was expecting so I still like it quite a bit. There are no copyright marks or label details anywhere on the outside of the case, yet it appears to be a professional job.

I assumed this to be a bootleg so I did some internet searches and found it listed as an "import." Is it indeed a legitimate album in some country or is it after all only a popular bootleg?

mommy, can I go out and kill tonight

It's a bootleg! Total bootleg, nothing official about it.

I have all their official releases, (minus the box set)

Here they are :

Misfits – Static Age
Misfits – Walk Among Us
Misfits – Evilive
Misfits – Earth A.D.
Misfits – Legacy of Brutality
Misfits – Collection 1
Misfits – Collection 2

Thanks KR, so I assume there are no "imports" that didn't make it to the US? What do you think of the box set?

The box set has all those releases, but their version of Static Age is missing a song (which happens to be one of the best Misfits songs ever) and the extra outtakes track and is not remastered. It does contain a very nice sessions CD of unreleased and rare tracks. But all of this is for the completest only really, as these are the same songs over and over again.

Also be careful to get the "real" Misfits with Glenn Danzig which are the CDs in KR's list. Post Danzig Misfits are releasing Cds which may confuse the novice buyer.

Best place to start is Collection 1 & 2, Misfits are horror punk with great vocals, must have Danzig!

Kelley; Misfits are good in both versions. DA and other purists don't like the polished sound of the new "lame" Misfits. I do. I will admit the the new Misfits do lack lyrically. They get rather corny most of the time. The only thing I have agaisnt the old/original Misfits is the rawness of the recordings. But thats just me.

Sorry DA I had to toss in the opposing view.

Let me add my view, the new so called "Misfits" just plain suck, with their cheesy lyrics, bad singing, bad playing, and bad artwork. This band is a disgrace to the legend.

Punk is suppose to raw and brutal, it's PUNK!!!

The Misfits is NOT that crappy new age pop punk that was so in during the 90's, it's the real deal.

The new lame misfits are a joke.

OKAY since KR brought up the subject of art work.
I am looking at my Misfits cd's. The art work really does reflect the difference in the two bands. Yes they really are 2 different bands more than one band with a new lead singer.
Comparing Collection II with Cuts From the Crypt.
Collection II has very minimalist art. A simple brown background with a black Mr Death painting. Two colors no frills. Kinda like the music. Basic no frills instruments and recording. Just the nitty gritty.

Cuts From the Crypt has red and black background kind of simple but then there is this intricately done painting of a skull/mummy thing and an eyeball plus a little skeleton. Lots of detail, looks like cheap comic book art. The music has more color and detail, kind of arty but in the cheap comic book style.

I know this sounds like I don't like the nu-Misfits. I do like them better than the original. I don't like either one all that much anymore. The nu-Misfits cd Cuts From the Crypt has several songs that I really like. They are all demo versions. For some reason I don't like the final versions. The original Misfits have some songs that I like also. I do understand why DA and KR don't like the nu-Misfits. The nu-Misfits probably should have gone by a different name.

So if your looking at CD's and wonder which band it is that you see remember this. If the artwork reminds you of a comic book then it's the nu-Misfits your are looking at.

I gotta say this: Lighten up KR

I am almost certain Danzig will never appear in any Misfits reunion concert or album, he even refuses to talk about them when interviewed..........he has a very "that was then and this is now attitude" I think KR will confirm this.

PD
I have to agree with you that sound is not the greatest on some of the original Misfit's material.

Static Age and Collection 2 has the best fidelity, but it's punk it's suppose to sound underground, I think it adds to the music. If those albums were too slick sounding, it wouldn't be as intense, raw, and real sounding.

Glenn Danzig will NEVER, EVER reform the Misfits, he had nothing to do with the nu-misfits.

Remember, Glenn founded the Misfits, came up with the name, ran the label, ran the fan club, wrote all the songs, and did all the artwork.

So how can there be a misfits without Glenn Danzig? Well, there can't.

Oh, I don't need to lighten up, if you ever meet me in real life, you would notice that I am the most laid back person ever. But, on-line it sometimes seems like I am upset or pissed off or something, which is not the case.

I have Collection II and Walk Among us. Yes they are punk, and that is fine I like them. I am finally starting to understand your point KR about how punk is supposed to sound.

Kelley I am just a casual Misifts listener. KR and DA are in the know.
KR, I am sorry. I was reffering to your bashing the nu-Misfits. They aren't that bad. I think true Misfits fans would have taken them better if they hadn't used the Misfits name. I agree that they most definatley are not anywhere close to the original Misfits. It's a sad situation.
