Hey, where's Toshiro! I hope Yijimbo makes a guest appearance!

Have you seen it yet? Here's hoping Miramax doesn't screw it up by putting a bunch of hip-hop-rap music in it as well as bad english dubs. Uh oh... I feel a great disturbance coming from my avatar...!

I am going to watch this in the Vancouver International Film Festival early next month. This is one of the film I have a lot of anticipation! I will revive this thread and give some impression later on.

Not yet, but then I haven't really been looking for it. The modern interpretation of the character would be worth checking out.

For those who are interested, IFC regularly screens the original b&w Zatoichi films, usually on Samurai Saturdays. I don't know anything about this new movie, but the old ones were a lot of fun and very well made (usually). They are also available on DVD.

You can always watch the original, so it might be good to have a hip-hop/matrix-style/ultraviolence version of it.

Of course, that's better done in a cartoon, so... not sure.

Well turns out it was playing just down the street from the main gate. The only thing I can say is if this thread interests you in any way you've got to see this. I didn't even understand what was being said and it was better than most films that I do. I did recognize two words that refers to earlier stories in and out of the same film line but I'm not going to say anything. I'll just say that the story is very strong, along with the action of course. Two things I knew walking out after sitting through the credits, 1) I'd be seeing this again, and 2) I've got to get that soundtrack. I was almost out of breath during the ending crescendo. Totally awesome.

Just finish watching the Zatoicihi. Wow! what a good action movie. Fractus, I think you missed out a lot without the subtitles. I'll wholeheartly agree with what you said, can't miss the soundtrack. I'll, for sure, get the dvd when it comes out. That being said, this movie is very bloody, violent like other Kitano movies. The CG can be better. But I'm no film critic, as an audience, this film serves it purpose, it's fun, entertaining.

If this film comes around in town, don't miss it. It's totally worth the money to watch in the theatre.
