Hi All

I have a Chord Mojo , 6XX phones and am also looking to get a pair of either Aeons or ZMF Eikon

Can anyone comment on a good class A SS amp that I can run from the Mojo and pack into my suitcase as i travel between Italy and the USA and I'll want to take it with me. I would use the Mojo out and about but wanted a desktop amp for use in my apartment

I was thinking sofar - I have not listened to any of these amps. Only Burson Conductors years ago (which I liked)

Audeze Deckard
Burson Soloist SL mk2
Schiit Jotunheim

Budget is $400 - $700

Thanks!
Dan

Hey thanks for the headsup on the violectric. I ended up buying a new V90 from thomann.de .... Has 1.5W into 300ohms which is what I need.. and has a variable PS so I don't need two bricks like for some
USA made amps ...

Thanks !

AFAIK, Jotunheim is not running full Class A, it's Class A/B. At a certain power level it switches over to Class B, even just for dynamic peaks. It's not automatically a bad thing, just that if you're looking for full Class A operation, this isn't it.

There's an Arcam amp that technically is a lot like the Asgard but in a chassis that looks like a black Jotunheim. Haven't read a lot about it but I don't remember reading any feedback that it doesn't sound as boxed in with the HD6xx series. Costs more than the Asgard though, but still within the budget.

If you can go with op-amps with more Class A bias before they switch over to Class B instead of just discrete components, there's the Meier Corda Jazz FF. It has Crossfeed built in so you can use any source and get a speaker hearing simulator (ie it filters some of the sound across both channels the same way two ears hear two speakers, making for a deeper soundstage with cymbals and the rest of the drums proportional to the size of the stage). This feature can be switched off. Also the potentiometer is actually digital, it just has a knob working through an ADC to interpret the input (rather than buttons or a remote), and high sensitivity headphones and IEMs won't have an issue with imbalance (without the need for older Meier amps having a -10dB low gain mode just to run properly with IEMs). Best part is, they're global voltage, or at least the older ones are, so double check on that.

Violectric V200/280?

AFAIK Violectric are Class A/B.

Are you planning on blowing your eardrums out, or is it just permanent hearing damage you are after?

The Mojo by itself is a fine headphone amplifier. Adding another amplifier plus cables is questionable, unless there is some specific coloration you are after. The most commonly desired coloration is the one introduced by tubes. You might like to explore that.

Finally, believe me, you do not need 1.5 W into 300 Ohms. Where did you get that idea from?
