I remember someone here said that : "If you upgrade from the budget-Level to Mid-Range you will notice a bigger difference in sound than when upgrading from Mid-Range to Audiophile range headphones."

is this true ?

and of course Budget, Mid-Range and Audiophile is defined here :

I have a bunch of Mid-range Headphones : DT990 , SR225i , HD598 , A700x , I am wondering if it is worth getting their audiophile-level versions . will the difference be too huge ?

Going from a DT990 250-Ohm to the DT990 600-Ohm is a noticeable difference (improvement).
If you can get a really good deal on the A900X or AD900X, go for it.

I guess the only way to find out is to try them out somewhere.....does anyone know where i can try audiophile headphones in Toronto

I can't speak for some of the others, but going from the following:

SR-225 to RS-1 - HUGE difference.
HD598 to HD600/650 - HUGE difference.

As for the Beyers, usually the DT-880 is considered the top-tier until they came out with the T-1.  The DT-990 and DT-770 were always a step below.  I can't tell you about the Audio-Technicas except that they were never really in the top-tier category, anyway.
