i threw this in the neverending move thread but got no feedback whether because no one had any or because it was lost in the shuffle. anyway

anyone here have experience with both the move and the microstack? i was doing microstack -> 580s as my only rig but was forced to sell both recently and am looking into the move as i need something easily portable, which the microstack was indeed not. assuming this will be a noticeable downgrade as the difference in price is quite large but just want to know to what specific extent. i got quite accustom to my setup.

also curious what people are feeling are the top headphones that go best with the move so far. any specific? any that the move can't handle? open or closed are both fine. no iem.

I haven't heard the Move, but I used to have a HR Microstack as well. Not sure if you know, but they are coming out with a version that is a combined amp/dac, but in a single unit HR 2007 Micro Amp

Good luck

The amp alone went up in price O.o Its a one-box solution of the microstack overall >.<

I'm curious on this too and noted it in my "amp for Senn 650/Denon 5000 thread. I'd love to know how the 2007 single unit will fare versus the prior separate stack and how both would compare to the Move (albit at twice the price). I guess we won't know until Augst 20 . . . Is there any reason to think the combo would have inferior DAC components or performance to the separate DAC? I doubt it. . . maybe they just figured it was easier having 1 unit, like several other mfgs. . .

my first amp/dac combination was the Microstack. I have kept the Microdac which I use with a Heed. I do have the Move but it is very hard to compare it to something I broke up about a year ago. I did love the "Stack" and do love the Move but that is of little help.

Hey, fyi on the new 2007 Micro and 2007 Desktop portable. . . .from HR - such helpful fellows!

Hello Scott,

Thanks for your e-mail ...

The HeadRoom 2007 Micro Portable will be available around Oct 1.

The 2007 Desktop Portable unit is nearing its release date of the week of August 20 and everything appears to be on schedule for that amp to roll-out on time as of this writing. There are no upgrade options available with the 2007 Desktop Portable Amp -- we've basically made it as 'hot-rodded' as possible given the power limitations of the 4-cell lithium rechargeables used in that model.

The re-chargeable 2007 Micro Portables are VERY close in overall sound quality & specs to the current Micro Amp / Micro DAC separates -- but are likely a point or two below the disposable-battery units in head-to-head analysis ... However, those small audio differences might be made negligible by the re-chargeable battery convenience (and lack of battery expenses!) and the simple 'one-box' design of the new 2007 models.

Please feel free to reply if any further questions, Scott ...

Cheers!

I too would also like to hear a comparison from someone who owns both the MicroAmp/ DAC and the Move.

also looking very forward to the Micro Portable release but still not sure if I wanna give up me MicroStack. there will also be another portable amp release by HR in the future(2008??, I dunno..). something smaller than the Micro Portable but better than the Bithead.
