It's all up to personal taste I guess. I've tried the WE 396a and WE JW 2C51. I prefer the Raytheon Windmill Getter 5670 to both by a good margin.Doesn't matter now. I have the better dac instead.
According to my tube guy, Brent Jesse, the WE tube was the absolute best anyway.

What did you like better?
I have a Raytheon 5670, but the 1954 dated square getter military tube, not the windmill getter. It's not quite as good as the WE, but then again I didn't listen to it for very long. I may put it back in soon.

Pretty much everything. From highs to lows and especially the mids. The Raytheon WG is especially good at pushing vocals, guitars, piano, and many other instruments to the forefront. It is also more dynamic and has a more 3d soundstage. Another great one to try is the Bendix 6385 but it is expensive and can be bright in some systems. It has the best detail, soundstage, and imaging of any tube I've heard in the 2C51/5670/396 family by a good margin. What did you like better?

Got my Istanbul today have it pared to a Schiit Lyr3 and Loki, listening through Hifiman Ananda am really liking this setup.
I have to take the top off and see what tube came with it.
It's a Sylvania 5670, any ideas for a new tube to try out?
Tube rollin' time!

What I found comparing the Raytheon 5670 to the WE was the Raytheon seemed to back off just a bit on dynamics and was a little softer than the WE, but it was very close. I like both and don't have a preference so far.Pretty much everything. From highs to lows and especially the mids. Nice. Try the Windmill Getter version if you can. It's a midrange machine. What I found comparing the Raytheon 5670 to the WE was the Raytheon seemed to back off just a bit on dynamics and was a little softer than the WE, but it was very close. I like both and don't have a preference so far.

Welp too rich for my bank account
I would believe that that would be alright for me, in that case that MHDT possibly would modify that appearance, for all of their DACS, for that, recent, appearance.MHDT Audio Orchid 69SE TDA1541A-S2

Did you only use the OEM 5670 prior to this swap? How does the 6SN7 differ?Just got my GARAGE1217 6SN7 TO 5670 yesterday and put my CV181-Z ShuGuang Treasures tube in my Istanbul.

Sounds bigger like there's a greater space, my Istanbul sounded great before, but now with the the DAC sounds like a beast.
It's a sexy beast, to my ears.
Got a bunch more 6SN7's to try.
After listening for a few hours , it sounds like vocals are surrounded in a cloud of music, not fog, but almost like vocals are slightly recessed, not in a bad way, at least not to my untrained ears.

Is it safe to use 6SN7 in MHDT? It draws 0.6 Ampere instead of 0.35Yep just 5670
