I want to replace my old Etymotic ER-4PT by Rai Solo, are Rai Solo in same category than mines?
I want to pair them with HiBy R5 unbalanced and balanced outputs, any recommendation on this?
As well with Chord Mojo, no issues I think, right?
They will playing rock & jazz guitar.

They are very good but you are going to find them quite different.
They are more v shaped than the etymotic.
More bass and mid bass and a slight treble peak.
They are very comfortable and well made.

I like the etymotic although less than the fabolous MrSpeakers Ether Flow Open. Any other alternative for IEMs? I was considering Tin Hifi P2 as I love planar signature but not sure if my HiBy R5 balanced output will provide enough power to move them.

I like very much the FiiO FD5 but as know it is pretty subjective.

I haven't heard the Tin P2 but the R5 balanced out should be more than enough.

Nozzle cleaning?
I am using the double flange tips on my Rai Solos. The mesh grill keeps getting dirty.
I managed to push the grill into the nozzle while cleaning them. I managed a repair with a tiny touch of silicone glue.
Can the nozzle be unscrewed for cleaning?

I made a supplemental screen mod to the double flange Meze tips. No noticeable effect to the sound quality or tuning.

I used a couple of stainless steel pipe screens and punched a 7 mm screen using a three hole punch:

EDIT Nov 2021: I NO LONGER RECOMMEND THIS MOD... As the tips got softer, the grill does not stay in very securely. It could become dislodged in your ear canal.

I received a quick response from Meze Support:

"Thank you for contacting us.
The nozzle cannot be unscrewed for cleaning.
To avoid the mesh grill getting dirty please clean it with a cotton swab and some alcohol gently."

I am a new recipient of the, Meze Rai Solo, and have been "getting used to them" for the past few days. These are such an interesting pair of iem's. Like others who have tried to describe them, I find I am equally perplexed to explain their sound, not that I've ever been great in describing things! Sonically, the Rai Solo's have such a unique sound, at once sounding normal, like run of the mill, and secondly, being absolutely stellar, and mesmerizing in producing an effect that some say is 3D. That comes as close as I can conjure up to expressing my description. The sound characteristics probably have more to do with the recording source, than any thing else.

I'm really growing in appreciation for what I'm hearing when listening to audio files, mostly compressed at this point, but when I do listen to lossless files, it's amazing! I'll be keeping these Meze RAI Solo's, and will purchase a 2.5mm balanced cable to use in with an A&K SR25.

Just bought the Rai Solo today. Had a short listen and confirmed they clearly need “solo” rotation. Anyway, they sound promising, to say the least.

Popped on the bigger and shorter double flanged tips and they fit right the first time. I’ll try the same size but deeper insertion ones to test the difference.

I also got a THX Onyx. Hasn’t arrived yet. The combo must be good (at least in the proposed league), or so I hope.

I’m going to run them for two or three full iPod batteries at 50% volume. About 100 hours. They’ll be ripe by then. The DAC arrives and we’re up.
