Meze Liric 2

Equipment used :

Topping DX9 - 15th Anniversary Edition
OppO HA-1
Cocktail Audio HA500H

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Box: Once Again, MEZE delivers a great box......very similar to the box that contains the recent Hifiman HE1000 Unveiled or the OG Susvara.

Cables : (2) one is SE, and nothing special, and one is a 1.5m Copper cable, terminating into a 4.4> Bal.

Build Quality of the Liric 2 : Outstanding

Headband : Comfortable

Pads : Sheepskin, and mildly comfortable. Overall there is a slight clamping pressure that is always noticeable.

Sound Analysis :

The Liric 2, are a smoother and more refined version of the original Liric's sound.
Tonally as FR.... they are much more linear from bottom to top and that means that the upper mids that can become "too much, as found in the OG Liric, have been redesigned and now are heard as more balanced, and very enjoyable and quite revealing.

The best Headphones.......regarding "Audiophile" always have the best Midrange, and this 2nd Gen Liric have a genuinely lovely and impressive midrange.

You will find that as more reviewers review the Liric 2, they are going to use the phrase "natural sounding"... quite often, as that is very accurate regarding what the Liric 2 is producing as its Tone and Timbre' and FR and SQ.
Bass is extended, mids are full, rich, and lush. Treble is never harsh and yet quite extended.
My initial impression is that the Liric 2 could be compared tonally = with the ZMF Atrium.
My overall impression of this New Liric, is that its as if the OG Empyrean has been FR perfected and has become a smaller set of closed Headphones, renamed the Liric 2.

MEZE's drivers regarding the OG Empyrean and V2 Empyrean, and all the Elite versions, and including this Liric 2, have a very obvious rounded '"leading sound-edge" that take the harsh "bite" away that is usually found in Planars, which causes all these MEZE models to have a much less fatiguing listen, that is produced by their much more musical "sound".
The OG Empyrean produce a sound that is engaging, enjoyable, sweet, lush, and in the case of the similar sounding Liric 2, its also very detailed, and quite resolving..with a much better midrange then offered by the the OG Empyrean....>YET the Liric 2.. still retains that : "this sounds good with everything" Magic that makes the OG Empyrean so unique and so special, as compared to any other set of Planers ever created.
The Liric 2's Pads are not as comfortable to wear as any of the full size Meze Headphones.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Treble : Its MEZE Treble, and about as good as it gets inside a set of closed headphones.

Its not rolled off, but because its tonally full, it can seem less extended then it is..... However, its quite extended, tho Meze didnt engineer it to be "airy"... Its engineered to be accurate/natural.... and never thin or too bright.

Midrange : Its that MEZE magical midrange. Its present without being etched.. Its full and clean without being dominate.. Its very musical.. Its pretty.

Bass : The Liric 2 offers nice clean Sub, and full upper bass that provides some warmth and fullness to the Liric 2's sound, but its never bloated.
The MEZE Liric 2's copper cable, is a very warm sounding cable........so, any type of change to a silver cable produces less Bass and more detail retrieval, that is perceived as more treble and more clarity and more instrument separation.

Soundstage : The Liric 2's closed cup soundstage is immersive, and impressive. There is a lot of info heard as L<>R, and there is also an impressive amount of "center staging" that you perceive.

Overall : The Liric 2 makes music sound good. And that isn't always a completely perfect solution, if for example you are listening to Metal..
But regarding just about any other musical genre', its ALL going to sound fantastic inside the Liric 2, just as it does inside the ZMF Atrium, or the OG Empyrean.
