Meze EMPYREAN - the First Isodynamic Hybrid Array Headphone

Focal in past had their Spirit line in the $250-$400 range and then came out with the Elear at $1000 and Utopia at $4000. Meze has the 99 Classic at $300 and then comes out swinging with their Empyrean at above the $3000 price point.

Meze has a great team behind team and I am so looking forward to giving the headphones a listen at CanJam.

As much as I hope it would be a success, at 3K price bracket you'd be competing head to head with JPS's Diana which is pretty much 80% of an Abyss with 20% amp requirement. Given how visceral Diana is I doubt Empyrean's tactility and speed will come out on top. And its almost impossible to top Diana's monster bass as well.

They are some damn fine looking headphones and the technology looks really interesting! Will be keeping a very close eye on impressions of these from CanJam NY.

So be patient. If, like Focal, they sell a few Empyrean flagships, when the initial buzz wears off and sales slow down, they will issue a $1000 version that's almost as good (initially).

If you can be even more patient, wait for the $1500 version that will be one of the best headphones ever.

At least Meze knows bass well. They could be innovators in making a planar that really satisfies bass heads. Those who say the Audeze have bass slam (all rolling off below 30 hz except for the LCD-XC, which still is lighter on the low subs) really just aren't that into bass. While I'm partially a bass head, I don't like excess, and the Meze Classic has close to a perfect level for me, using the latest (slightly thicker, apparently most recent generation) pads (that I bought separately from them, that differed from the stock pads I had and seem actually to fix the excess high bass low mid resonance issues, keeping sub bass). A half-way point between both of the 99's and the flagship that is open could really be something.

I don't want to disrespect Meze but come one please don't compare Focal with Meze.. Focal was already a well established brand in the world before commercializing headphones while Meze is still an emerging company.

I wish them good luck but I still think it's a bad commercial move to go from a $309 product to $3750.

I kind of agree too, Focal was well established in the high-end market and has lot's of technology to bring to high-end headphones. Meze really has to make a groundbreaking headphone to get everyone's attention.
