Meze 99 Classics Discussion + Impressions Thread

i'm using it as a USB DAC indeed.
I have a Steinberg UR22 USB soundcard but I don't know how I can connect my FiiO to it.
Using the USB DAC function overrides the Steinburg. Connecting an AUX cord from the hp out of the Steinburg to your FiiO will make the FiiO an amp. There are upgrades for sure for both, though I haven't heard either of those pieces, I'm sure it would be marginal.

How can I burn in my 99 Classics ?
Burn In is simply just using the headphones so the drivers loosen up. You can use normal music and/or something like the JLab Audio Burn In track.

Sorry but I don't see how I can connect them together, my UR22 is connected to my KRK monitors so the line output is already used.
Anyway, i primarily use my UR22 for my monitors and switch to the FiiO when I want to listen with my 99 Classics.
By the way, how would you compare the 99 Classics to the Fidelio X2 ?
I was hetitating between these two headphones.

The 98
99s are much more alive to my ears. More resolving, better dynamics, better presented mids. More capable of picking up artifacts, and just more engaging for me. The X2 was less warm, bordering on a darker sound from my experience. They do have a considerably wider Soundstage though. The Classics are far and away my favorite closed back can for this rock n roll metal maniac. And I've owned and tried several at and below the 300 dollar price point.

Do you have anything to recommend for an upgrade?

Well, we're not into describing our products as upgrades of other manufacturers' products. But there are many happy iFi+Meze users here, someone should help you out shortly.

Yes, I prefer the 99C over the X2. My X2 actually hardly get used. It was one of those gears I had to buy to try. I like it but doesn't get much use. May put it up for sale.

Nope. 4th generation pads.
It's SO strange.
If people want original 1st pads why they made NEW original pads that different from 1st version of meze 99 classics pads???
So strange!
And we have hot and 1st version small pads on old meze 99 classics, and NEw version of small pads in package of NoIR

My god, the balanced Hiby R3 and Noir combination is almost next to impeccable. I was thinking of upgrading to the Fiio M11, but why when I'm perfectly content with my set up? :o2smile:

I’ve just bought the classic 99 to pair with my iPad Pro which seems to have a decent dac within. Out of the headphone socket it sounds pretty good - slightly dark in the high frequencies but a great headphone for mp3 quality. My other cans are Stax 009S so bear that in mind. Excellent build quality for the price too. There’s a Canjam London in a few weeks so I’ll look at the upgrade cable as well.
