Metrum NOS Hex Flagship DAC

  Hi Antony,
It's funny that in 23 pages in this thread there aren't that many impressions on the Hex. Maybe that is an indication that the DAC really is transparent, as transparent sound is basically no sound... Is there any way you could try giving a few more hints about its signature? Does it pass the "boogie" test for example?

Hi Twinkle
Is there a dealer near you. I bought my Octave from a UK dealer and could have returned it in 14 days for a full refund. This may be the best way to know if you like it?
You know, I am not sure how you are to feed the Hex, but the source i.e. PC or Mac, USB to SPDIF or USB right in, the software you use for the feed all has a big impact.
The SQ you will get with a very good transport can be upgraded further with a decent computer feed. I got 20% at least in improvement.

Good luck with your search.

Anyone interested in a brand new, unopened & unused Metrum Hex at a bargain, here's your ticket.

I appreciate my Hex the more I listen to it.  I initially thought I wanted to sell mine after a year of ownership because I thought I could get close for a lot less money, but the more I listen to it, the less sure I become of that.

This is a piece of equipment you grow to love the longer you have it, IMO.  There is no initial wow factor.

Do you know if it's possible to use XLR and RCA output at the same time on the Hex? Thanks!

^ Indeed, especially once one gets past the introductory paragraph to the designer himself. A thoughtful and interesting piece.

Sorry guys, I most likely missed this, but how does the Hex play with MACs and OSX via USB? Is it 2.0 and just plug and play, or does one require a USB driver?

Driver required for the original USB module.  I think the revised Amanero USB module is plug and play.
