I was wondering if any one could shed some light on the following.

I know Tangent reccomends 1/8W restiors. But would 1/10W work? I have a much better selection of 1/10W resistors to choose from here.

I assume 1% would be best, but whats the drawbacks in using 5%.

Tangent touches on this in his cmoy instructions. The content specific to your question is here: http://www.tangentsoft.net/audio/cmo...ts.html#eighth

It sounds like you may be OK with a power supply of 30v or less.

I'm a noob and an art student, so waiting for better advice may be good.

With regards to the 1% vs. 5%, the big thing for me has been heightened ease in hand matching the resistors (e.g., I come up with a pair in a few rather than a lot

The resistors I warn about in that article don't exist in the META42.

If you short the output of a META42 and you have some small-value resistors in R8 or R9, you could probably burn them up even if they were 1/4W. With 2 buffers per channel, even 1/2W isn't safe. The lesson is simply to not short the outputs long-term, not to put high wattage types here.

As per the 1% vs 5%, many choose to use the 5% and hand match the pairs.

In the first case, most 5% resistors are way inside of 5%. And by just measuring with your meter, assuming you buy the typical 5-pack, you will likely find two pairs each matched very closely out of the 5. I can usually get two pairs well inside of 1% (each pair) from a 5% 5-pack.

Remember, the difference in value between the two (assuming one in left and one in right channel) is more important than minor variances in their absolute values.

For example, when building my GainClone loudspeaker amp, I used a 5-pack of 5% carbons. For my 220k feedback resistor, the 5-pack yielded a 217k, 2-218k's, a 220k and a 221k. That gave me two pairs well insde 1/2% each from the 5-pack.

This has been typical in my limited experience, no matter what the value of the resistors.
