My home cd player has a built in processor with a volume control. I would like to configure my META 42 without the cheap Panasonic pot I am using. Any suggestions on how this can be done would be appreciated. Given a 50kohm pot, I assume the fixed resistor values would be the same.

You will be better off using your META42 volume pot and leaving the CD player at full volume all the time. This way you get the highest level signal out of your source at all times, reducing noise.

If you insist upon using the CD player digital volume control, just leave the META42 volume at full. The cheap Panasonic pot, as you say, is only a liability from the standpoint that it is somewhat flimsy and does not track as well as the Alps Blue. You will not get better sound by replacing it with resistors.
