Melbourne, Australia meet - Any interest?

Sep 26, 2005 at 1:08 PM Post #16 of 86
I would be happy to host the meet at my place in the burbs. Got some gear coming in soon.... a new amp and perhaps a source upgrade, so late October onwards is looking good for me. I'm near a train station (12 minute walk) for anyone who's car-challenged. And what we lack in equipment we can make up for in beer stocks. An ice-cold Duval, anyone?

That's sounds mighty tempting for a road trip!

OK, super. Well if anyone is waiting for gear and pondering purchases, we can hold off, let burn-in / ear adjustment kick in, and then throw it all into the mix. Melbourne in summer is grouse! (Says an ex-queenslander) Interstate travellers are welcome by all means.

My place is not huge, but there should be enough room and power outlets to set things up in different parts of the living areas. I have one spare matress for anyone who wants to crash. There's always the floor, too.

Hey Enverxis, if your Eastsound trumps my multi-$K source upgrade, I should warn you that seeing a grown 36-year old man cry is not a pretty sight.

Good point, although in Melbourne you never know what you'll get. And I have central heating in case there is a cold snap.

Anyway I'm thinking the last week of October or early November for the meet, depending on special travel arrangements for interstate folks, planets lining up, etc.

im only ~165km away from Melb, but there are no other Head-fiers in Bendigo. There are a few in nearby cities however, someone should be able to give me a lift

you pay for fuel, I'll drive and pick you up, how's that sound? (car does about 8L/100ks) - that includes the trip out there to pick you up and the trip back to my place after for myself.

Bloody nice offer, Jazper....and I will make sure there is plenty of food and drink for anyone who turns up! It should be excellent. This is my first attempt, so please pass on any technical suggestions or special requirements.

I have two Cawsey Powerboxes with six filtered sockets on each board. I suppose the 'premium' gear can use these outlets, then we can rotate other components to see how they sound, or just use regular power outlets for your own items if you wish. I'll have my stuff set up and powered-up a few days before the meet.

Thanks for the lead-time info, Enverxis. Noted.

In terms of what we need, mostly snack food and drinks (cups/glasses or whatever) think a small relatively subdued party.

Interconnects for all would be useful (people remember them!) and co-ordination of a few lists.

If you make an official meet day asap, then we can start pooling companies to send us "stuff" for the meet. I know of two such companies I can try to tap for it.

A list of sources/amps/gear in the signup thread would be good.

Everyone (this means you) should bring at least a 4 socket power board, just in case, and if possible an extension cable. Though I don't anticipate us using more than about 16 sockets all up.

That's all I can think of for now. To all who come, remember the gear you're handling is someone else's and you should take care of it. (goes without saying but bears repeating)

Excellent, thanks Jazper. How about Saturday November 5th, given that Enverxis needs some lead-time for booking holidays. Lunch time onwards, say 1:00pm Melbourne time (remember that daylight saving will be in force then), unless people want to make it an evening bash. Chip in your preferences if this is not convenient.

I've been going through other head-fi meet threads to see what goes down, but like you said Jazper, it's similar to chucking a small party, which I can handle....I tend to over-cater, anyway.

I'll maintain a list of equipment pretty soon, starting with my own gear (see sig) and a count of power boards currently in the house. I have a few spare ones now since buying the Cawsey units.

This meet will be good fun....and it doesn't have to be a MEGA-meet, just need to focus on making it go smoothly, with the proper care given to everyone's equipment and travel arrangements.

I'm going interstate, back next Tuesday Oct 4th. I'll kick off the Melby meet thread then.
