MEElectronics M6 Review

yea, right as I goto buy a pair of the M9s they raise their prices, I knew I should have ordered a pair of these yesterday when I saw them. Still cheaper than having overstock ship me a pair to Canada though.

Not to worry - according to the twitter feed they are running coupon code 'SPECIAL_SAVINGS' until April 2nd that lowers the prices back to last week's levels.

I received mine from Newegg yesterday. They are the version with the pouch, not the hard case. No problem; that's how they were shown when I placed the order.
Very comfortable. I kind of like the copper wire. It took me maybe half a minute to fit them initially, but they are easy to put in since. I bought them mainly for running, and their fit seems like it will be perfect for this purpose. I already have a pair of Sony hybrids that I bought for my RE0s. Fortunately, my left ear is slightly smaller than my right ear, so I don't have to buy another pair

I got the M6's about two weeks ago and so far am mightily disappointed on several counts. First: I'm finding the SQ to be very harsh, bright, and very sibilant. I am willing to give this some time for break in and am hoping that my experience is the same as several posts I've read in this regard, and that these things calm down to a place that's
listen-able.
Then there is the issue of getting a seal: prior to these I mostly used the IM590's with medium SONY hybrids and the ADDIEM's with complys-so I naturally thought that the hybrids would do fine with these. However I can't get a good seal and decent isolation no matter what-every once in a while, I do get a hint of their potential if I hold them against my ears-but we all know how annoying that can be. I'm a petite woman with tiny ears and perhaps the M6's are better suited to larger ears(?).

Then there is the issue of the memory wire, while it's helping to keep the things stay in place somewhat,as many others have mentioned,it's not all that comfortable.

All of this is a bit confusing as getting a proper seal is so totally linked to SQ-it's hard to sort out how much of this is related to burn in, and how much it's a fit/isolation issue.
If I remove the memory wire, would it improve the fit/seal?
Should I give these things a chance, or should I just exchange them for the M9's?
I've owned the PL21 and had no such problems (they got sheared in half by a car door : (

What's a girl to do?

That definitely sounds like a seal issue. Trying to remove the memory wire may help but you would be taking a risk. If they still don't seal you'd probably have to sell them here rather than returning them. The M9 are a step down in SQ but you should have an easier time fitting them.

I would say give them some time... mine are definitely sounding better after three 10 hour overnight burn in sessions playing music at normal listening level. They still aren't where I'd like them to be, but I think I'm moving past the unlistenable stage with them now. They are much less harsh than they were out of the box.

I'm only now wondering this...but should I be de-coring the v-sonic $2 foams?

That depends on which size you get.. there's two. The larger (UE) size fits on just fine. Smaller (Shure/Ety) size is not advisable because they may slide off too easily after de-coring and they won't fit stock.

Burn-in indeed helps to calm it down. Nonetheless, I think M6 is still pretty harsh. Maybe 40 hours of burn-in is not enough?

For me the memory wire is no issue. The only funny thing is that the left side is easily fit in while getting the good seal for the right one is really a pain.

Are you using the triple-flange buds? I gave up on those, they were too much of a pain in the ass to get a good seal with. Now I just use the medium round buds and they sound great, they're comfortable, and I get an easy seal.
Just my two cents.

Also, is it just me or are the M6's just a bit bass-heavy? It doesn't really bother me but I'm not much of a basshead and appreciate small amounts of bass.

Well, as of last night I have 40 hours on mine... still entirely too harsh for me. It seems like they are no longer improving in this regard, so I'm pretty much going to write them off now. They're still not bad in my opinion, but definitely not up to my standards for long term listening.

The future of my M6's very much depends now on those EQ presets my new Zune will supposedly have. If they can't smooth these out (and I'm not holding my breath on that one), it'll be time to try the RE0 methinks. I should have realized right away nothing I could get for $50 would please me for sound quality. That said, they do sound miles better than the old Sony MDR-ED268's someone gave me once that originally cost more than these.

Meantime, I'm going to give the Koss KSC-75 a try. They were dirt cheap, so why not. I'm fully anticipating that I will get the urge to mod them right away.

Maybe just a smidge... they sound pretty well balanced to me. They tend to roll pretty quick off below 25Hz or so, but overall they sound pretty close to flat throughout most of the bass range. But that's just me and my ears talking. Bass became a bit more laid back for me after these burned in some.

^To add to oklahomawolf, while I don't find them bass heavy, to my ears there is a bit of a midbass hump. Nothing huge, and they are still relatively balanced, but the hump does add a little warmth to the IEMs. Whether that's a good thing or not depends on the person.
