I suppose you could always convince a snake that your headphones were worth eating, then kill them once they had devoured them whole. And voila, form fitting snakeskin earpads!

On that note I don't think if you really loved reptiles you would not want to wear dead ones on your head. But who am I to tell you how to express your affection... (Just please don't ever love me :O ! haha)

I know you're kidding (I hope), but I wanted to clarify anyway. I would never kill a snake or any other reptile for the sake of using its skin. There are companies who recycle the skin of animals who are already dead.

Personally, I find utilizing the remains of an animal for a function in a way that honors its beauty a lot more loving than simply tossing the body aside to rot. We all have different views on this of course, so to each their own.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go sit on the lap of my grandfather's stuffed corpse to chat a bit before I head to bed.

That is an excellent concept, and I really meant it.

As long as the impact of using the material is low, it doesn't really matter what it is. Would make it pretty hard to get Etheopian Lambskin leather... they can barely afford food over there and we are killing their baby lambs for headphones :S

Congrats on taking the joke to disturbing new heights haha :p. Reminds me of Ed Gein.

Ladies and gentlemen... here are my un-boxing pictures, as promised. I can't comment on the sound just yet, but I should get a chance to listen by this afternoon.

The last few show the Z1000 next to the Edition 8 Limited and the CD900st.

Does anyone know how much the Z1000s cost in akihabara? Might be planning a trip down! :)

Why aren't there pads made from pigskin? Consider the football: it is covered in pigskin, it feels great, and it only cost $20.
Or if they're going to call it luxurious, how about some mink fur lining?

I agree, and what about snake or alligator skin on the outside?  or a russian hat on top?
I think the mink fur lining around the pads (like the typical design on a jacket around the hood) would look awesome.  I'm tired of all this plastic and pleather at high prices as much as a motorbike.

I've actually tried to get custom headphones build with snakeskin on the outer ear cups. I love reptiles and keep them now and then as a hobby. The problem with reptile skin however is that it's too tough to stretch and pull like cowhide. Whereas cowhide can be pulled over wood ear cups, snakeskin would have to be directly applied without being stretched, and that wouldn't work well. The only alternative is unfortunately scale-patterned leather like Phiaton uses, which isn't anything like scales aesthetically or texturally.

Has anyone tried the Z1000 with Wookie or Ewok ear pads? I hear once you get past the longish hair they truly are comfortable - never too toasty. Some sort of "shaggy" carpet for the head. I tried to get some Ewok pads for my D7000, but it would seem the last known village was slaughtered for some other head-fiers and they have since become collectors items.

LMAO darn near ROTFL!  thanks, that's the best laugh i've had all day.

that red strip, studio use ,is not in the pictures on the jp website??  northamerican model , fakes??

If these are fakes, then a) PriceJapan is disreputable and b) the counterfeiters have managed to produce a headphone nearly on par with the Sennheiser HD800.

Somehow, I don't think either of those is possible.

It is just a sticker. I have removed mine as these are keepers for sure. My favorite headphones purchase of the past two years.
