Hello,

I just found my old pair of Sony MDR-V6's in my storage unit, and Iwas wondering what thier value is and how good were they considered, I am currently using SR80's and my MDR-E888's.

I had heard once that they were fairly good cans, does anyone know where to get replacement pads for these?

Thanks in advance.

You'd probably have to contact sony for stock pad replacements, but you should replace them with Beyerdynamic DT250 pads instead (go to beyer usa's site and get a phone number, that's how I ordered mine), muuch more worth the money. V6 retails for around $120, but can be obtained online easily for $70 new. If you clean them up a bit and get better pads, even 3+ year old ones can be sold used for around $30-40 these days.

You can get replacement pads at Location Sound
They sell both the Sony replacement pads & the better Beyer DT250 pads. So the choice is yours!

Location Sound
10639 Riverside Drive
North Hollywood, CA
(818) 980-9891, or (800) 228-4429
Beyer velour pads, product # PBEYEAR07, $8.40 each

I don't know the cat # for the Sony replacements, but just ask for parts, and tell them what you need. They also sell the replacement foam disc's that go over the exposed drivers.

The V6's are a fine set of budget (read <$100) closed cans. After trying several of its competitors (PX200, Eggos) I ended up with them for situations when the open Grados work work. For a few months that was a sr-80's/V6 combo. I think you'll be happy with them. They get recommended a lot here.

And as mentioned the velour Beyer pads are a nice "upgrade".

Hey Thanks,

For all your input. I am looking at getting these Beyer Pads. I was thinking and I realized that these are at least ten years old. I recieved them from a friend when my daughter was born.

I haven't kept any audio gear this long!

They're quite good for recording/portable use, but not reference grade cans IMHO. Nice find
