I'm headed off to college in the fall and I want the best pair of phones I can get...with college comin up I don't exactly have all the money in the world to spare so I'm very hesitant about spending a lot on headphones. I have never owned any headphones other than the ones that came with the equipment and would like to finally get a decent pair for school. I will be using them mostly with my ipod and laptop. So with all that considered heres the question.....are these headphones worth the hundred bucks I will be spending? Is it a worthwhile investment for college? Any input, opinions, experiences, or any other info dealing with these d66 eggos would be much appreciated....thanks in advance

I have a pair of these. Sounds smooth and clear, detail is pretty good too. The most interesting thing about this is that it's a lot smaller than it looks in photos. It can literally fold up and fit in the palm of your hand. It's pretty light and it doesn't look ugly (unlike many other headphones out there). It has a bit of isolation (just a bit) and a bit of soundstage too (again, just a bit). I'd say that out of all my portable headphones, the D66 has the right compromise for sound quality, comfort, looks, and portability. However, if you are looking for overblown bass, then this is definitely not for you.

One more thing, it's not good for wearing during the summer since your ears can get hot fast!

That's a problem, since they're not good for wearing in the winter either, due to the headband pieces turning to spaghetti due to the cold weather.

I saw you mentioning that before. I still don't understand why that would be though. I thought that the cold of winter would make things harder rather than softer. Do you know why it would turn soft in the cold?

first i thought it would have been big like one of those regular sized headphones u see people are in the studios..

but then when i got the package from www.audiocubes.com... they shipped it in a envelope.. which was pretty big, then i was like, what the hell!? why is there a small thing in the envelope.. then after i opened it, and it looked like a small little headphones that would look perfect sized for little kids..

the craftmen ship is great, but the wire from the cans out, has this clinging sound wen i walk around.. you mite want to clue that part so it won't cling..

I haven't experienced that myself, but it's pretty well documented in the annels of the search feature that that's what happens. Joelongwood among others speak of it somewhat extensively.

The loosening headband thing does happen, it's quite wierd, but it doesn't get so loose you can't wear em, Just pull a beanie over your head and go, they are just fine, and so warm.

Hm... I'll have to test it out myself then, but that'll be in half a year or so. LOL It does get extremely cold here in Ottawa for a few days during the winter. I'll probably wear the D66 as often as I can in that season since the weather can be unpredictable.

Why don't you try a fridge? I would have, but I am shipping my Eggos out soon, so I do not want to take any chances.

Well, I don't wanna break them, and I'd be really sad for my precious D66 if it was my fault. And plus, it's not really such an urgent matter that I have to see the wires turn to spaghetti softness.

Have you noticed that when you order from audiocubes they write on the envelope it a gift, and the value is $20

This is of course to avoid the traid barries between Japan an the US.

BTW: I like these headphones a lot. There really good. The bass comes out more clean after burn in. I it defently the best portable (as well as regular) phone i have owned. There also better then my open senns
