MCINTOSH LABS INTRODUCES NEW HEADPHONE AMP MODEL MHA 100

consumes 30W vs 20W for the D100... wondering if it has an improved headphone out with more drive then the D100 as in my opinion that is the D100 weak point.  I don't need DSD or extra optical inputs, the only other changes I can tell.  if they doubled the headphone power i might go through the upgrade though.  curious to hear how it compares to the D100.

  Hi, I'm new here.
I'm MHA100 owner and I have a question. How can I change the default volume value when change output, as now it always been 30%.
Here is my system:
DAC: Invicta Mirus
AMP: MHA100
Headphone: LCD-3, TH900, W5000
Speaker: Elac 310CE
As written in MHA100's manual, if volume could be adjust in an extend DAC or pre amp, it is better to fix MHA100's volume to 70% to get the best performance. And Since Invicta Mirus has a well designed digital volume control, I want to fix MHA100's volume to 70% and adjust volume on Invicta Mirus.
The problem is when I want to change output from headphone to speaker or just change impedances, the volume return to 30% and I have to adjust it again.

If that can't be set, how can I feed back this problem to maker and hope to get a firmwire update?

Is there anyone can check it happens on your MHA100?
The problem still remain after I return to factory setting.

I can confirm my volume level does not change between outputs

I will check this evening and report back.

Yeah.  Just noticed that.  My volume is reverting to 30 when I change between outputs when it is set above 30.  Must have been uner 30 when I tried it earlier.

firmware 1.0.

So it is spec.
Since the volume can not be fixed to 70, I have to set volume of DAC to max and adjust volume by MHA100, or reset volume to 70 everytime when change outputs.
I already report to my local dealer and is there a path to directly feedback to MCINTOSH?

You might be better off that way because in most implementation of digital volumes if you reduce the volume lower to certain threshold (Wadia is about 67%) the resolution of the conversion is affected.

They will tell you it is by design and use some idea like to protect the speakers or whatnot as justification.  That was their sort of straw man argument when I brought up the D100 issues.  Atleast I got a response from the actual engineer who designed it.

That may be justification. But they also recommend to fix volume to 70 when using extended volume control to get best performance. And I believe my Invicta Mirus's volume control is better than MHA100.

Hi, basically digital volumes get worse than analog at low volume. But I believe my Invita Mirus performs well even in low volume with its well designed 32 bit digital volume control.

Here also has the report of the performance digital volume by Resonessence Labs.

  Welcome to the club!

Thanks but I'm not there yet.

The flight from Ice Station Zebra to the nearest Mcintosh dealer is half the price of the amp.
I'm going to have to figure out their weird no shipping policies, which dealer, where etc.

Almost there and should be ordering from a reputable dealer this afternoon.

Then I have to figure out how to get it up here safely.

And I still haven't figured out which cans to pair with this thing. Thinking a set of HD800 and LCD3 as a starting point.

Also, I've developed this strange itch to pair the MHA100 with a MC275. So far this is just idle gear lust.

That said, I've locked my wallet up in the basement.
I couldn't stand the screaming.
