McIntosh D1100 DAC/Preamplifier impressions

So I never read Ivan the terribles trash. First he's been lying for years about being an authorized McIntosh dealer amongst other brands that would have nothing to do with him. He's gone so far as to post pictures of a Chinese factory making the claim MBL is made in China. He did this because they refused to let him sell their product. What he posts about McIntosh is just him pontificating. Suffice it to say you just sent me a link that I won't even bother with reading just because of where it comes from. FYI. Ivan was a McIntosh dealer many years ago and his life as a McIntosh dealer was so short you could have missed it by blinking. The shortest term of a McIntosh dealer ever. He violated every rule McIntosh has in the shortest time too. Ivan is a punk bitch. A lying cheating person. Ask him why he ran so fast from me at RMAF as I exposed his lies to the public there. He made no defense he just shed his tears and ran like hell. Please do us both a favor, never bring that BS'ers posts or links to me again.

So you're clear I'm not mad or upset at you for sending the link or anything. I'm pissed at Ivan for all the hundreds of people he has screwed over with his lies and unscrupulous practices. He definitely gives hifi a very bad name. audioaficianado exists as a result of his being thrown out of Audiokarma. My advice is stay away from that pile of dog feces.

He sells a lot of used Mac gear on that site, and everyone seems to be happy with the gear they receive.

Anyone that represents themselves as an authorized dealer with a restricted brand like a McIntosh and sells product representing it with warranty that only an authorized dealer can do, I don't know but isn't that fraud? I've met quite a number of people that he sold McIntosh to as "New in the box with factory warranty". Each time they got the bad news about Ivan directly from McIntosh. He can sell whatever he wants but he can't represent McIntosh as a dealer unless he is and he isn't. If the dealers name isn't on the McIntosh web site, they are not an authorized dealer for McIntosh. McIntosh puts the dealer name up on their site the same day they are approved as a dealer.

Sorry man, I'm ranting but Ivan Messer is a snake in the grass and is bad news. There is no such thing as Legendary Audio either other than a living room stereo system he owns. These kinds of people are the only thing bad about this business.

Thanks for the info. I wonder where he gets all of his Mac gear from.

PS - a D100 admirer here. Works great with JRiver (even DSD files - when downsampled by JRiver), but having heard more expensive DAC's am keeping an eye on the D1100.

The D1100 is pretty impressive. I'm liking it for sure.

Different dealers that are no longer dealers as a result of selling to him. I know if 8 dealers that were instantly terminated as a result of his convincing them that they wouldn't get caught. McIntosh is not stupid. All McIntosh dealers are warned not to sell for purposes of resale to any other non-dealer any product they manufacture. Ivan is specifically named along with a couple others.

What's funny is he tells people he is friends with the President of McIntosh. Well I'm here to tell you that is the farthest thing from the truth.

The deal breaker for me in upgrading my D100 to the D1100 is that the mute button also mutes the headphone out. I prefer the headphones to continue while the speakers are uted in the way the D100 handles the mute button. This way I can use mute to do things like answer skype calls with headphones on without causing a feedback loop. If they had it where you could mute the rear outputs but leave the headphone out still active I would buy it in a heartbeat. I think the tube version though might be my preferred option in that case.

I understand. There aren't a lot of higher end DAC's that are like that. The Chord DAVE is the same if I remember right.

The Gist of the thread I linked to is about how hard it is to get firmware updates on Mcintosh Products. I don't know anything about Ivan, but the thread was useful and there are a lot of legitimate complaints from very loyal Mcintosh owners about the issue. I've since found out that all new c1100 preamps are being shipped with the latest firmware updates so I will be ordering one!

Great for you JBob1!! So first and foremost Mc's current focus is to really make the C1100 & all 1100 Series products to a really excellent point of synergy both analog and digital. We have the full 1100 system on display and honestly I like it a lot. Today we had it driving MC1.2KW's on the Focal Grande Utopia ....it slammed when told to and smooth as silk when required. It was very sweet ...so much warm air

The D1100 is the same ESS9018 design as the the C47, C52 & C2600 but with an improved power supply and implementation along with the better true dual mono "quad balanced" analog output. Ron has confirmed this elsewhere. Of course these are 2 very very important pieces of a DAC.

Do you possibly know what's in the MHA150? I've been so curious!

In case anyone is curious, I've solved my issue with the fade-in from silence when using the USB connection with an MHA150. I usually use an Apple computer, and I decided to try the USB connection with Windows 10. The fade-in still happened on Windows at first, but once I made a change the settings in the McIntosh-HD control panel app tracks started playing immediately, with no fade-in. It has even carried over to the Apple computers. Problem solved!
