My Rotel CD player RCD-02 has developed a fault with the tarnsport and is about to go off to Rotel for repairs, Rotel will give me a quote on the cost, as I bought it 2nd hand I am not inclined to spend too much getting it fixed as it is not under warranty and given that when I bought it it was "little used" I am underimpressed - despite a lifelong loyalty to Rotel products.

I may then be in need of a new source and if this experience has taught me anything it is how risky it is to spend a lot on 2nd hand sources.

That being the case can anyone reccommend a good, reliable CD Player, I will use it mainly for classical music and I will hopefully be getting a "Classic" headphone amp from Norm at headsave and the chain terminates in a pair of HD580s. My budget is $700 (this is not firm it is rockhard

) for a new player. The other requirement I have is that it must have a *really* quiet transport, I sit close to my rig and the noise from the RCD-02 used to be highly irritating.

I am enjoying my RAM Signature Music Hall cd-25. It has significant mods by Modwright . New they are $1200, I believe. I may know of a used one for around $700. They basically, updrade the ps, convert from a solid state to a hybird player with a tube output.

Is the drive quiet ?, my criteria is that I should not be able to hear the disc spinning from 18 inches away after it has initially got up to speed, it is the constant noise on the rotel that is the real bugbear, if this seems harsh well my old 855 was silent at that distance.

This looks like a winner.

The transport on the CD25 is very quiet. I could not hear the cd spinning from a feet away. The modified CD25 is a very nice player that performed head to head with expensive players I had.
