I had originally joined because of a nostalgic thing, the original HD580 Jubilee, which was to come after the HD580, but became the HD600. There was no HD580 Jubilee offered to the public. I could put the HD600 driver capsules into the HD58X and pretend I had one. Probably more exciting that what I'm doing now.

Supposedly. Others have pointed out that it *looks* like an HD555 driver. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the driver is indeed a 555 driver.

I think I'll trust what Sennheiser and Massdrop have both stated over what it looks like to random people on the internet and believe them when they say it is a completely new driver.

it look the same, look at the back of the driver, the size is the same - 38mm, only the impedance is different, so probably a new voice coil

I've seen the pictures. It's clearly not identical. Besides, looks alone don't tell much. Especially behind.

Pretty much all HD 555, HD 595, HD 598 etc. Drivers look similar. It cuts costs but doesn't mean that they are the same.

Probably is...but tweaked... from the current reviews of the production model.....looks very promising....the specs on the prototype left me lukewarm...this one, well i joined today's drop.

what do you mean, it looks exactly the same, the same clear plastic basket, same magnet, same dampening paper

Well, as long as it sounds good, that's what matters.

It may look similar (metal part looks different enough to me) but it doesn't really mean anything. Probably uses different materials. However, I do wonder if it would be possible to but HD 58X Jubilee drivers in HD 595 housing... Angled drivers... Makes me wonder if Sennheiser is planning to release something with these drivers and HD 59x style shell.

    HD 595:

it is tweaked for sure, the impedance is 150 ohms, so the voice coil is different, that will change the behavior of the diaphragm, and the housing is very different from the hd5xx series as well, at the end different headphone all together

that is a pic from 595 driver, the hd555 driver has the same round edges on the magnet like the HD58X

What's important are the distortion figures at 90dbs, from Jude's readings they're not far off from the 650s which can be driven cleanly at higher volumes... so hopefully they're "unlike" the 59X drivers....we'll find out soon enough.
