Massdrop x Focal Elex Review & Measurements

So what other cheap cables work on the Elear/Elex? Want something that’s 4’ or so that’s 3.5mm on the end, and inexpensive. Not looking for an “audiophile” cable, just something cheap.

I’m using This one and it works fine but is just a bit rigid and want something softer/flexible.
Your link isn’t working for me, but if you are looking for a single ended 3.5mm to dual 3.5mm I would recommend this

They also have it in balanced 4.4mm

and xlr

Yes, I have the Elex.

I have this 4.4mm one
https://a.co/d/fQtyK5F
and this 2.5mm one

I also have essentially all variations of their cables for Sennheiser HD6xx’s.

They are light, very flexible, and sound great!

Sweet. I ordered the regular 3.5mm in the 5ft length. Hopefully it doesn’t annoy me like the one I’ve been using.

Sounds good! Let me know what you think. I think you’ll like it!

From the pictures on Amazon it looks cheap and thin, like it belongs on an IEM. But if you have several cables from this brand and like them, then I’ll believe ya. Looking forward to trying it.

I’m using

NEW NEOMUSICIA Replacement Audio Upgrade Cable Compatible with Denon AH-D600, AH-D7200, AH-D7100, AH-D9200, AH-D5200, Meze 99 Classics, Focal Elear Headphones Black 1.5m/4.5ft https://a.co/d/3Jposab

I have a XLR cable for the Elex (from Periapt) and a 4.4mm (with XLR adapter) for the Hifiman Arya Stealth (from Audiophile Ninja, compatible with the Elex); with 3.5mm terminations they'd both run around 60 bucks. Both cables work well, are well made and have good feel. Also, both companies are a pleasure to deal with. They are both leagues above the Neomusicia and similar stuff that is all over Amazon--I had one once for the Sennheiser HD700 and it was so cheap feeling that I couldn't abide it. In an audio world of ridiculously priced cables, I consider these prices quite reasonable for what you get, but suspect you would consider them too expensive. You get what you pay for.

Was going to recommend the Youkamoo cable as well. I have the 4.4 mm for the Elex and liked them enough to get the IEM version of them. I found them too heavy for IEMs, but the ones I have for Elex are nice, flexible and light enough for headphones. They are somewhat like IEM cables, but are stiffer.

Sounds good. I’m looking forward to it.

For something custom, but still under $100, check out https://customcans.co.uk/

They use copper litz for the wire wrapped in Paracord of your choice. Super flexible and sounds great. I have one and love it.

I can't say enough good things about this cable - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09XQ65ZDV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Very pliable, great feel and really nice price. I've used it with Focal and Hifiman headphones and it's just really good

I've used custom cans before and unfortunately cannot recommend them. I absolutely loved the way their cable felt, but unless I got a lemon, they change the sound compared to the stock cable I was using.
I am not much of a believer in cables, so I cannot explain what the reason is, but it difused the soundstage and the headphones just sounded funky.
If it was just a lemon, then feel wise, the cables are superb.
Otherwise, I'd recommend the Faaeal cable I linked before which sounded exactly like stock to me.

Well, that's a downer. I do have 2 of their cables and heard some headphones at a meetup that were using them and all sounded as they should. I hope it was just a fluke, but it is concerning.

It was a while ago, so I am hopeful it might have been a lemon. They're over a 100 bucks though, in which case the Faaeal cable is about 25$ and so much more affordable if that is a concern
