Ideally i would like closed back but not sure what would be on part with hd6xx
ok i hadn't considered Audeze, do they still have the great presentation of vocals and instrumental music?I would recommend a Audeze LCD-2C I really love my pair if you are looking for an upgrade in darker sound signature.
yes i am looking forward to getting some new gear! i have been looking at the topping d50 and d70 dac as they look to be pretty good. probably leaning toward the d70 as the sabre can be slightly bright from my understanding. please correct me if i am wrongHi Daniel,
Your Yamaha AS701 probably already has a reasonable DAC in it, though a dedicated DAC like a BiFrost Multibit would surely improve your sound. I think you'd see a larger impact from replacing your Little Dot mk2 with something like a Liquid Platinum as I think that's the weakest part of your chain currently.
The reason I bring is up is that I've noticed the HD650/HD6xx to scale up with every improvement I've made to source equipment or Amp. Right now, running it out of a Gungnir Multibit -> Decware Taboo with great tubes, it sounds 85-90% as good as my Verite.
Of course, you'll also see improvements if you upgrade your headphones. Either way, best of luckThis is the fun part of the journey.
Thanks,
Richard
Balanced cables and the ifi hip dac... That combo is just over 200 usd. I run that setup from my laptop on the road.

Hello,
It took me a while to find the sennheiser h6xx (hd650) and i abcolutely love them. However i am now looking for the next advancement in this sound signature.
My advise would be to NOT sell your HD6XX in the mean time. Odds are you’ll return to them after all the upgraditis settles down.

Cheers, solid advice! No problem Daniel! Mostly, there isn't a "right" way to do this hobby, and whatever you change, it likely won't be the last time you change your rig. I've had success upgrading amp and dac, but others really like upgrading headphones so do whatever you feel like. The only thing is to make one change at a time and let your ears tell you whether you like it or not![]()
