What is the best program to massively convert FLAC files to MP3? I want to put them in an iPod but FLAC files are too big and taking too much space. I don't exactly need the quality on the road.

foobar2000 has a converter built in. works great as long as you don't have any duplicate files and using dual-core (if it tries to write two files at the same time with the same name it will cause the whole process to abort). If you don't have any files names the same right next to each other though, it works fabulously.

MediaMonkey should handle this too.

In browser window, just
- select [All] above the folder(s) you have your files stored,
- activate all those files in file list which you like to convert,
- press Shift-Ctrl-C
- unselect those duplicates
- set target options (saving path, format, etc.)
- etc.

x2

Just downloaded the dBPowerAmp Reference Trial version - love the multi-core support, love the dynamic naming feature.

Be aware that Max does not suport .cue files. XLD does, but it does not support playlists (no valid for mass converions). I use parallels with foobar to convert my flacs/apes to alac.

I find Max to be excellent for mass-converting FLAC files to other codecs/formats. It has LAME 3.97 built in...

MediaMonkey is great, though it doesn't support dual core (or at least as of a few weeks ago, but that's ok because I like to do other things while I convert). But you can setup a nice file structure for mass conversion, and it just sits there and converts for you.
