I live in the midrange!
I'm listening to her debut album right now on Rhapsody, and I'm simply going to have to pick this one up. Think Maryanne Faithfull without the over-the-top cabaret stuff and you've got a pretty good feel for it. Or maybe Maryanne Faithfull does Morrissey would be more like it. At any rate, it's fresh, very listenable, and the bubble gum was clearly left at the studio door.

I'm not a big fan of Rufus Wainwright (older brother), and everything I've ever heard Louden Wainwright (father) sing sounds like that "Oh, Tokyo" song that he sang in a first-season episode of M*A*S*H*. But this Wainwright seems to have struck a chord with me.

Anyone else given it a listen??

I picked it up but haven't gotten around to listening to it yet. I'll make a point to pop it in tomorrow and give it a whirl

This is honestly one of my favorite singer. I first saw her at a Cyndi Lauper concert in montreal in march 2004. I liked it and decided to buy a demo cd she was selling after the show. Since then I've been hooked totally! If you can find some of her previous work you won't be disappointed!

Oh btw Martha Wainwright thru e4c is pure bliss!

Haven't heard the new album but was not that impressed with what I heard from her in the past. And Rufus was not my cup of tea either.
But I'm a big longtime fan of Kate, Anna & Loudon. Matapedia is a real sleeper.

i'm a huge rufus fan. martha opened for him in a club show i went to in 2001, back before anyone had ever heard of her, and most people still hadn't heard of him. she has a song about new york, probably called new york in the fall, or maybe new york new york. it's not on her CD but it's worth downloading if you can find it. it's amazing.

definitely, if you have a chance to see her live, do so. she's just fantastic.

the song Hoppergrass is mentioning, New York, New York, New York is in her EP "I Will Internalize"; excellent song from another one of my fav female singer/songwriters!
